I'm on an extremely low budget right now, but I'm in desperate need of a new driver. I've narrowed it down pretty much, but I need some opinions. Thanks.

Edit: Sorry I was trying to add a poll but couldn't.

Here are the options:

-Mizuno MP-001 400cc ($50)
-Cobra SS 380cc ($50)
-Callaway Greatest Big Bertha ($40)
-TaylorMade R540 350cc ($40)
-Srixon W-403 420cc ($40)
-Titleist 983K 365cc ($55)

It's not on your list, but I play the Tommy Armour Ayrtime, and it can be had for $50 from Sports Authority, made the Hot List in '06 (I think), has MWT, and is very forgiving, I've hit it side-by-side with TM Burner and a Hibore and the Ayrtime was as good or better (at least for me). Very good looking club, too. I have two, was planning on using one to play around with the shaft, but like the stock shaft so much I haven't had any desire to tinker.

ps. head is 430cc

I went to Global Golf. I think I might get a TaylorMade r5 though. Only $65, must've overlooked it.

I'm kinda partial to TaylorMade myself, so that would be my recomendation.

The R5 was a great club line.

The TM R5 is good. apart from making sure you get the right shaft flex. check what tip you get.

I play the Big Bertha and love it. Just like any club you have to get used to it and work with it. I average about 260 off the tee but can sometimes get a hold of one out there for 300-310. Those feel great!

I love to hate this damn game.

I just started a new thread on this club. But, I'll post it hear also, since it applies to this thread starter. I would either suggest one of the few clubs suggested. Or, you may even consider taking the driver out of your bag for awhile. It really helped me develop my other clubs nicely. Here's my driver recommendation:

I just got this driver in the 9 degree loft for $89.99 on Amazon.com. What a steal of a deal!!! Came standard with a UST ProForce V2 regular shaft, which alone cost $69.99 at global golf. I have hated the driver for the last 6 months. I've actually only used a driver on about 2 of the 30 rounds I've played in the last few months and have been using a 3 wood.

I go play 18 today with my brother without even taking the 3DX on the range.

Results:
1. As expected, I was erratic. That's me though, not the club.
2. On the back 9, I really started cracking the whip. Hit some great shots.
3. Very loud on impact when hitting the face.
4. Much lower, penetrating flight than I'm used to. I love it.
5. Has a satin, dark face. As long as I whipe the club between shots, I can see the dimples of the ball and immediately know exactly where i hit the ball on the face.

Overall:
I love this club. Sounds big, and flies big too. I'm really looking forward to geting this on the range and grooving a nice driver swing.

This is a great club for any range golfer. I'm a high 20s/low 30s handicapper and feel like the differences of the Tour version are great benefits for even me.

I've also seen it around the $100 mark all over the internet. If you are struggling with your driver, definitely try this one out.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
