Can someone please explain to me what a member-member or a member-guest is all about? I hear Americans talking about them all the time and was just wondering:

1.How they work?
2.How often do you have them?
3.Don't you have any individual tournaments?

Can someone please explain to me what a member-member or a member-guest is all about? I hear Americans talking about them all the time and was just wondering:

1. That depends.

2. That depends. 3. Most courses do, yes. To elaborate: 1. How do they work? This varies. My country club changes the format each time in the monthly ones - some times it's best three scores, sometimes it's scramble, sometimes it's best two + worst score, sometimes it's another format. Sometimes it's a two-man event instead of four... Prizes are awarded for low gross and net as well as skins (gross/net), usually, with a small calcutta and so on. 2. How often? My country club has a massive 4-day event in the middle of the summer, but it also has monthly, one-day, smaller member-guests. We have about 8 months of good golf weather, and courses in warmer climates may have bigger ones two or more times per year. 3. Individual Tournaments? Of course - stroke and match play club championships, local county events, etc.

At my course we have one member member and one member guest every year. The member-member is exactly that two members teamed together. At my course the format is a two day best ball (one score). The member-guest is when you get to invite a member from another course to be your partner in the tournament. The format at my course is one day best ball, one day two person scramble. They are a lot of fun and tend to be the two biggest tournaments of the year. The member-guest always brings a few people from out of state to play.

traditionally the member-guest tournament has more prestige and is usually combined with dinners, party, etc. and shitload of prizes. Most of the time it's a 3 - 4 days event starting thursday.
member-member usually is just another tournament - like club championship...

    • Day 39: did top golf for an hour with the family. It was fun but also not really like real golf at all. Also did some mirror work - working on the backswing stuff mostly.
    • Day 4, 1/2/26.  Played 18 today;  didn't get a chance to warm up (had I known the range was closed, I'd have hit balls at home first).  Played okay, 92 with three balls in the water.  It was raining for more than half the round and I didn't quite appreciate before today just how much I benefit from roll on both drives and approach shots.  I did not adapt well to this change until about hole 15, which is something I have to figure out.
    • Day 143 1-2 Arch wrist in downswing. Having a SLIGHT cup in the lead wrist at the top now. Only paused swings with some rehearsals before swinging at ball.  Used foam ball.
    • Day 459 - 2026-01-02 Had two guys on GEARS Hybrid, so I hopped on afterward (I'm going to do this a lot more often now). So… I've signed myself up for another month of backswing work in two ways: A little more extension of the trail elbow (got into the upper 90s) Less pelvis turn (low 50s).
    • Day 31 (2 Jan 26) - Usual Friday men’s group shootout - good day of shot making  as most shots were right on line to the target point.  Putter and green reads were solid with some great par saves and a really tricky birdie.
