G Funk,

all good advice... but get in a gym!!! you'll obviously want to lose weight but its not just about poundage... muscle weighs more than fat so the best way to guage your improvements is by body measurements, espcially how your clothes fit the last thing you want to do is weight 300 lbs then lose 40 lbs through dieting but have a flabby body, have to get tighter while you lose weight or else you'll look flabby

I am in on this. Although I wouldn't win because I need to only lose about 20 pounds. I went to a liver specialist and he asked me to lift up my shirt. He looked was like, "Well not too bad, just a little obese". I was like, "A simple over-weight would have been fine, thank you". So he wants me to lose 15 pounds and I want to lose 20.

In San Francisco's Chronicle today there is an article about a over weight 38 year old man who documented everything he ate and after reviewing his previous diet decided to changed his eating habits and lost 20 pounds in 3 months.

Try Vitamin Water, I drink that instead of juice in the morning. It doesn't have high fructose corn syrup. That's the stuff you have to stay away from. I try not to eat or drink anything with it anymore. I gave up all fruit juices too. Most juices have 28g of sugar per 8oz serving, practically as much as a 12oz soda. Gatorade's Propel is super low in sugar per serving too, even less than Vitamin Water.

Ya I really have transformed the way I eat and I feel sooo much better. Fast food used to be a commonplace a few days a week. Now I will only go maybe every few weeks for some Taco Bell or Pizza!!! Here is a breakdown of what I eat:

Breakfast: Whole grain flakes (Total or Wheaties) with a banana.

9am Snack: Piece of fruit

Lunch: Chicken breast with a vegetable on brown rice (I cook 3-4 pieces of chicken for the week and season them differently so they do not get boring).

2pm Snack: Couple of hard boiled eggs (no yolks) or piece of fruit

Dinner: Pretty much anything remotely healthy, just not a lot of it.

Bedtime: protein shake or some fruit

Probably not the best diet but it is good and doesnt make me feel like a slug. Also, on the golf course I bring my own food for the turn. No more cheeseburgers or hotdogs. I make a sandwich on wheat and bring along a granola bar or piece of fruit. I eat one bad meal a week.

Obviously no soda, only water, milk and juice during the week. Weekends I have some brews

Exercise 4-5 days a week. Only 20-30 minutes a session so it doesnt interfere with golf or family life. Treadmill and lift weights. Very basic.

I am 25 and have a family history of heart attacks so I am trying to stay with a lifestyle that will be longterm and something that I wont get tired of. I know I will get bored eventually, so I will make changes. My dad was never overweight and ate whatever he wanted because he worked out. He had to have quadruple bypass surgery at 59 because his arteries were clogged. He now eats like I do and his cholesterol levels are on par.

Good luck

I cut sugar and fast food out of my diet, and tried to eat dinner as early as possible. I also started lifting weights around the same time, I added some nice muscle (IMO) and am down about 30 pounds from 10 months ago. I'm just now getting real serious about diet and protein intake and am going to start a cardio routine soon to get that more chiseled look

UPDATE: I AM STILL THIN!!

I look like a twig, although I did gain 3 pounds! Woo hoo.

I am fat as well. 6' 230lbs. I've had an office job all summer, so that didn't help. I just got some dumbbells for home, so I've been doing those and crunches for the past week or so. Also, will be getting 2 hours of biking in each day (commute to school and back) starting later in August when law school kicks up again. Want to get down to 180-190 and fit in the suit I bought at the start of law school again... Need to cut out the bad meals and plan my eating schedule better to have small meals throughout the day...

    • Yes. I believe in using the same ball all of the time, including chipping and putting practice. I use the orange Callaway Supersoft.  Only $25 per dozen, and sometimes on sale for $20.
    • A 5400 yd course is not that short for gents driving it 160 yards considering the approach shot lengths they are going to be faced with on Par 4s.  Also, for the course you are referring to I estimate the Par 4s have to average longer than 260 yds, because the Par 5s are 800 yds or so, and if there are four Par 3s averaging 130 the total is 1320 yds.  This leaves 4080 yds remaining for 12 Par 4s.  That is an average of 340 per hole. Anyway, if there are super seniors driving it only 160ish and breaking 80 consistently, they must be elite/exceptional in other aspects of their games.  I play a lot of golf with 65-75 yr old seniors on a 5400 yd course.  They all drive it 180-200 or so, but many are slicers and poor iron players.  None can break 80. I am 66 and drive it 200 yds.  My average score is 76.  On that course my average approach shot on Par 4s is 125 yds.  The ten Par 4s average 313 yds.  By that comparison the 160 yd driver of the ball would have 165 left when attempting GIR on those holes.
    • I don't think you can snag lpga.golf without the actual LPGA having a reasonable claim to it. You can find a ton of articles of things like this, but basically: 5 Domain Name Battles of the Early Web At the dawn of the world wide web, early adopters were scooping up domain names like crazy. Which led to quite a few battles over everything from MTV.com You could buy it, though, and hope the LPGA will give you a thousand bucks for it, or tickets to an event, or something like that. It'd certainly be cheaper than suing you to get it back, even though they'd likely win. As for whether women and golfers can learn that ".golf" is a valid domain, I think that's up to you knowing your audience. My daughter has natalie.golf and I have erik.golf.
    • That's a great spring/summer of trips! I'll be in Pinehurst in March, playing Pinehurst No. 2, No. 10, Tobacco Road, and The Cradle.
    • April 2025 - Pinehurst, playing Mid Pines and Southern Pines + 3 other courses. Probably Talamore, Mid-South, and one other.  July 2025 - Bandon Dunes, just me and my dad.
