Breaking 90 in the tournament (so far only in casual rounds) .. mental, mental, mental ...

regards,

Im looking foreward to just playing golf. My swing is starting to come together, as is my short game and my putting, so I look foreward to each and every chance that I get to tee it up.

...and then the following week I have week passes to the Nationwide Tour stop here in Columbus. I'm hoping to get out maybe Friday through Sunday but definetly on Friday and Saturday. I'm planning on skipping out of work early Friday and catching most of the day's action and then hopefully catch almost all day Saturday.

I am jealous, I love going to the Nationwide tournaments because you can get so much closer to the golfers. Considering the number of current PGA Tour players who are graduates from the Nationwide, it is a great opportunity to see some of the up and coming talent (just look for the yellow jerseys).

My next few weeks are going to be full of tracking the John Deere online, tracking the Open Championship online, tracking the Canadian Open online, and trying to sneak out for a round sometime.

I'm hoping to break 80 sometime in the next month or so. I've shot low 80s over the last couple of weekends without hitting the ball like I know I can. If I can start getting my ball striking somewhere close to my best than I feel like breaking 80 is definitely on the cards. Will be playing 3 rounds over the weekend, the last one being a tournament so perfect oppportunity.

I can't wait. I'm hoping the weather cooperates and doesn't rain or anything. If it does I hope it rains early and pushes tee times back so I don't miss out on too much.

I'm not sure yet what my approach is going to be, If I will follow a grouping or if I will just pick a hole and watch everyone come through. I guess I'll decide that on Friday. Only two weeks and counting.

Continuing my lessons. I have 5 lessons coming up in the next 5 weeks, and then a playing lesson. I'm very excited because I think in two months I can be down to about a 7 or 8 handicap. I'm so close to getting it lower, my short game and putting (the past few rounds I've had 28 and 30 putts) has really come around...but my ball striking just hasn't be good. My teacher says he knows exactly what is wrong in my swing, and said "you have a ton of talent, we can't let this go to waste..." So, we'll see. I also have another tournament coming up in 4 weeks that I hope I can win. I'm winless in tournaments, but I think in a few weeks I can have my game to the point where I can at least finish top 5 (usually about 20 people in the tournaments) so it wouldn't be bad.

I'm looking forward to breaking 100. (I'm close--shot 107 yesterday with 3 or 4 blowup holes.) I'm still hoping to achieve my goal of breaking 90 this year.

ARGH! I shot 100 yesterday. So close...

Well I had a good time playing in the outing on Friday. Well for the most part I had fun. We were in front of a group of a**holes that hit into us a total of 3 times. By the last time the other guys in my group were ready to whoop some a$$ but cooler heads preveiled and we continued to play golf. Of course by that time our game was shot because we were so pissed about the dumbasses. It was incredible hot all day. So by the time we got around to the last couple of holes we were dragging. I did not play so hot. I had a few good shots to help my team out. I ended up losing about a dozen balls in total. One of my best shots of the day came on the 15th hole. It's a par 3. This hole they were giving away a two year lease on a 2008 Corvette. It was silver and had black leather interior. Man it was pretty. Of course on this hole they have a couple of very beautiful girls sitting there. So I tee up my ball, and hit it square. It made a beautiful sound and the club hit the ball. Perfect flight pattern. It hit the green, bounced right and ended up about 2 feet from the pin. For a second I thought it was going to go in. Man I was pumped. We finished the day 5 under. Best I've ever finished in a scramble.

I'm going to lengthen and regrip some old Haig Ultra blades. Really looking forward to playing them. I bought the set 2-PW on eBay last year for $32 and the PW is a gem. It's 51 degrees loft so it plays like a current gap wedge. Now I remember why I was such a good chipper as a teenager in the '70s when I played Haig Ultras. The loft and rounded clubface is all the difference.

Ironfinder.com indicates these clubs are from 1966. They might not be identical to the ones my dad bought me 35 years ago, but darn close. I used to have a natural consistent draw with the Haig Ultras. Nothing since has come close, once they were stolen in the late '80s during a move. I bought Hogan blades, and while great looking I think the high shaft bend point stifled my draw and eventually caused my swing to change.

The clubs are short. That's the only problem. I need 38.5 inch length for a 5 iron. Although I realize 5 iron loft then is like 6 iron loft now.

I removed the grips and the clubs obviously have changed hands before. One guy lengthened them and the extenders were still visible with epoxy. Then (presumably) someone else shortened the irons and cut off the extenders at the butt of the shaft. I already flamed out the old extenders via stove, quite a chore. Now they're ready for universal extenders from Golfworks. They arrived today.

Golf Pride Tour Wrap Midsize grips to follow.

I am going on vacation to Michigan next week and I will play there a few times. Then I have my club's best ball championship at the end of the month and it is the only tournament at my course that I haven't won before so I am getting ready for that. Then in August I defend as Club Champion, and in September the Newport Cup. Its going to be a great rest of the summer!

What Michiagn courses are you playing... I am from the great mitten and have played most everything in Metro-Detroit and many more in Northern MI.

As for me.... I'm going to Myrtle Beach in a few weeks... Witch, Wizzard, and Man O' War. I'm also going to head out to the Sandhills and play a few courses in the area. I'll be in Toledo on business and in Michigan while the PGA is going on... but have no tickets And I think I am about due for my first hole-in-one.
My Clubs: Callaway FT-i Tour LCG 9.5° w/ Matrix Ozik Xcon 6 stiff; Sonartec GS Tour 14° w/ Graphite Design Red Ice 70 stiff; Adams Idea Pro 2h(18°) & 3h(20°) w/ Aldila VS Proto 80 stiff; Adams Idea Pro Forged 4-PW w/ TT Black Gold stiff; Cleveland CG12 DSG RTG 52°-10° & 58°-10°; Odyssey...
