Always as I thought, but I read this recently

Best tip I got was, "golf is a game of opposites."

When I first started out, I tried to get distance by swinging harder and muscle everything. Then I tried a smooth, slower, and rythmic swing and guess what? I hit further.

Shoot for the back of the green. If you miss hit the club you are still on the green. I notice most players come up short the most of the time.

Well, my variation to that is when between club hit the longer one. I find in most cases it puts me closer than the short one.

I stretch my back with pilates and walking. This allows me to play two days in a row if I want too.

I hope by stretching your back you mean your

upper back and not your lower back... As for my tip: Some days you "have it," and some days you feel like you have nothing. Well, if you check your grip , stance and posture , and waggle you will feel you have it every day, and you'll be able to use it!! Here's why: -A correct grip will activate the proper muscles of your arms, the muscles that run along the inside up to the armpits. A correct grip also eliminates the possibility of one hand overpowering the other hand during the swing. -A correct stance and posture will activate the correct muscles of your body... the muscles that run along the inside of your legs, your chest, abdominals, back, etc. -The waggle is essentially a mini-back swing. In other words, your back swing is nothing more than an extension of your waggle... so if your waggle is correct, your back swing should me more or less correct. In my honest opinion, if you master these three you can forget about what your arms and hands do in the swing. You will be able to hit the ball long and straight without any thought to back swing or downswing because your body and mind will be already set up to do nothing but execute a golf swing .

* if putting (or bump&running;) and the ball passes the hole, remember the line for the return put. (its easy to get annoyed that you just missed and turn your head away and forget the information that could be gained)

* fairway bunkers (120 yards upwards etc.) focus on the middle>front part of the ball, that way a nice clean contact is made and a full distance from the iron used.

* maybe a personal one for me (and my friends!) .. be prepared for the tee-off time .. ie. have tees, balls, pitch-marker, marker, etc etc. everything already prepared before the tee-off (not seconds before!). That way you will start the round with a nice relaxed tempo which will set the tempo for the whole round.

* again maybe a personal one again, but formulate a pre-shot routine (putting too). that way I can think about a few things before the tee-shot (ie. draw/fade, take-away, tempo, ball flight etc.) but when i walk up to the ball I essentially just swing and concentrate on tempo only.

    • New clubs came in this morning and I happened to be working in the area so I picked them up. PING G430 Max 3W (-1.5°) with PING Tour 2.0 Black 75, X-Stiff at -1/2" PING G430 3H with PING Tour 2.0 Chrome 85, X-Stiff Those replace my old fairway wood and hybrid, making all 14 clubs in my bag fitted. I'm going to need new excuses for bad shots 😜
    • Ooh, I don't know about that. I've hit flop shots that are 6-7° down. The more you widen the spin loft the less ball speed you put into the ball.
    • Re: your graphic, ‘ I expected a little more from a varsity letterman.’ Lol…just another one for @boogielicious
    • Can't brag about a 50 last night but it was the best round of my season (4 rounds of 9 holes) so I am not as upset as I could be.  One thing I am noticed is that I got a little more confident in my long hybrids and I attempted a couple longer shots that typically I would just lay up and those holes were a big part of the lower score.  Not every shot was great but good enough that they helped.  I even shot par on a Par 5 after taking a drop.  On that hole I would usually lay-up to @ 100 yards and often miss the green altogether with my 3rd shot (or worse chunk my approach and put it in the waste area).  Yesterday I went for it from @ 200 yards out with wind in my face and landed in the waste area short of the green.  My drop left @ 40 yards in and I stuck it to 3 feet for my par putt.  If I had laid up I would have avoided the penalty stroke but likely would not have been on the green in regulation and may still have been working for par.  By going for it I gave myself a chance at birdie and still saved par. I do not plan on being crazy aggressive but I think I tend to be too conservative at times so I will "go for it" a little more often going forward.
    • Day 14 (15 May 24) - Worked with the SW in the backyard, short pitches from 10yds up to 30yds.   Focused on ball placement in stance - ball back, ball forward, ball center.  Afterwards moved to inside the shop to work on putting pace on the rug - putting one way gives about an 8' putt, going the other a 6' before bumping onto the adjacent rug.  Focused there on the line - picking a target point about 18"-24" out and making sure the ball rolls through that point.
