My house - St. Louis, MO - 1750 square feet

Would that be somewhere around Lemay Ferry Rd??

I've spent most of my life golfing - the rest I've just wasted.

In my bag todayâ¦.

Handsome house.

Thanks. St. Louis is a bargain in my opinion. My friend lives in San Jose and pays what I pay per month for a ROOM in a 5 bedroom home!!!

But in St. Louis we dont have the ocean, nice weather, or fine golf courses

I live in the suburbs about 30 minutes North of Detroit. I live in Waterford. We have a 3 BR/2.5 Bath with an attached 2 car garage and a full basement. We are about 1500 sq. ft. + the basement that I finished myself. It's a nice neighborhood and I bought the house as a new construction in 2000 for $165,500. Since then I have added a deck, custom built shed, ceramic tile in the kitchen, 2 bathrooms and entryway. I have also done Pergo in the living room and as I mentioned finished the basement. It appraised about 4 years ago at $220,000. However, due to the terrible market people are letting them go in my neighborhood for less than I paid 8 years ago.

The amazing thing here is how big a difference a ZIP Code can make. If my house was in West Bloomfield (7 miles away) it would sell for twice what I paid. In Pontiac (4 miles) it would have been about $120,000. Taking that further, my parents live in Royal Oak (30 minutes). Their neighbor sold a house that was 1100 sq ft on a smaller lot with a detached garage for $175,000. If you put my house in Birmingham (borders Royal Oak) it would be well over $500,000.

The house I have would sell for $2M in some markets, yet we paid $192k, then added a pool room. Almost 2500 square feet right now, with a full (unfinished) basement. Probably could sell for $220k in a heartbeat, or $240k if we were patient. Not that we want to sell, that is.

    • My boss, out of the blue yesterday, asked me if it ever gets too hot for me to play. I've played in 112* in Phoenix before. Fairly frequently play in mid-90s in NY. Those days are worse than the 112 in Phoenix. I said no. But I'll play in anything. I've played in sleet, snow, hail (one time it hailed on us while blowing a steady 45mph gusting to 55mph - as verified by an anemometer in the clubhouse), torrential rain, high winds, cold, hot, you name it.  Lightning will get me off the golf course though. I'm not an idiot (well, not that much of one anyway).
    • I'm an all weather golfer. Luckily in my part of the Bay Area, it never get's much hotter than mid-70s, and the only humidity fog, so I don't have to deal with hot and humid weather. Most of the year I only have time to play once a week, and it's my weekly psychological break from the daily experience of work/parenthood so I hate to miss it. The only thing that really gives me pause is high winds, because my home course has tons of trees, and quite a few are diseased/dying. Often times when I am out playing and the weather is really shitty I will momentarily question my decision to play, but I rarely regret it.
    • I can't really vote. I'll play in 50° if it's even a little sunny and not pouring. I'll play in 90°. I generally won't play when it's pouring, ridiculously windy, or > 100° or below about 40°.
