For those dogging on Wilson/Staff's, anyone know what irons were used to win the British Open this year?

99% sure it was the pi5 irons last year and the pi7 irons this year.

Probably Nike. Don't really hate them, but when I think Golf, they don't come to mind.

Someone mentioned Ping - I agree, their irons, and even wedges (and I play the wedges, LOL) are quite ugly...but I find their hybrids and woods to be very appealing to the eye, and they hit very well.

Driver Ping G10 10.5*
Hybrids Ping G5 (3) 19* Bridgestone J36 (4) 22*
Irons Mizuno MP-57 5-PW
Wedges Srixon WG-504 52.08 Bridgestone WC Copper 56.13
Putter 33" Scotty Cameron Studio Select #2

I would base it on the types of clubs....like I would never buy anything Callaway except woods.....the jury's still out on Nike but other than your knock-off brands found at Wal-Mart, I'd hit anything that can keep me in the 70's

Irons wise I'll never buy another set of Titleist.

How come you don't like Titleist irons? Bad experience?

Well, just about anything is better than what I play right now. The name is Foremost and I bought them at Walmart years ago.

I haven't hit a lot of different clubs, but from what I have hit, I'm not too fond of Mizuno drivers and I am not a huge fan of TaylorMade. Don't think I'll ever go the Nike route, even though I was very close to doing so at one point.

I've never owned any Callaway clubs, but I have swung and hit them before and loved the feel of their irons and woods. Swung the Squareway wood at Dick's Sporting Goods not too long ago and that thing feels amazing. I have somewhat of an allegiance to Callaway even though I've never really even played a full round with anything from them. Surprised at how many people don't like Callaway.

I too like MacGregor clubs. Again, have never played a full round with them, but from the feel of them, they're very nice.

I've always also sort of looked at Titleist as just a brand that makes great balls. Haven't ever given their clubs a try. Might have to though.

I've had the AP1s since April. Worst club I've ever hit in my life. I hit them about 20 yards shorter than any club I pull out of the demo cart. I got so sick of them the other day I called the Mizuno rep and ordered myself a new set of MP-57s and MP-T wedges.

I was just thinking . . . .

Let me guess that if Tiger switched to Pings, you might change your mind.

Never understood the brand-centric attitudes of some. I do realize that golf is 90% mental and one is unlikely to play well with clubs they don't like for whatever reason.

If you're a 5, the AP1 are probably not the right sticks for you. Not sure why you would expect otherwise.

For about two seconds. Then I swung one and hit it.

Yeah, I made the mistake of buying them. I didn't want to wait the 8 weeks or whatever it was for the AP2. If I was smart I would've kept my MP32s just in case haha.
