Alright so heres my problem. I'm really trying to limit my golf spending with school starting up soon.

And nickent has the best deal i've seen in a long time. 3h,4h,5-10i, pw, and a free square driver for $500.

And i normally wouldn't even consider it but nickent has gotten some great reviews on these irons so i figured its worth a shot; HOWEVER, the only place i can find that still has this offer and isnt sold out(golfsmith has it but they are giving some srixon driver?) offers graphite shafts only. Would getting stiff graphite shafts be that bad? I've always used steel but i wouldn't mind changing if it wasn't that bad.

Ok little update.

I found the nickent 3dx 3h,4h,5-10i, and pw for 225. I know people ask this all the time, but i dont really have a chance to try them out. What do you think of this set. 225 for an iron set and 2 hybrids is hard for me to pass up.

If you are talking about the set with the carbon fiber caps, you can get those on Ebay for cheaper. I saw 209 with free shipping yesterday. I am trying to find them in steel, but its very hard to do. Unless you are left handed, then the steel set is easier to find.

I found them in steel for about 235 shipped.

I dont think getting clubs with graphite shafts would be bad at all. I think the only real knock against graphite shafts is that there isnt as much feel.
With steel shafts, you know when you mishit, but with graphite the shafts absorb more of the shock, so you dont really feel the mishits as much.

Well, i think I'm just gonna demo a graphite shafted club and then just buy the set.

I buy all my golf gear on ebay for the best deals. You just need to be careful with seller without 100% feedback ratings and seller with low volume sales.

Same here. Almost all of the equipment in my sig is from Ebay and I got them for a fraction of what new clubs would have cost.

You just gotta make sure that the seller is a, "power seller" and has at least a 99% rating.

steel is so much more durable too
id be pretty angry if my graphite shaft on an iron snapped from a really bad superfat shot (just in case anything like that ever happens)

I learned on my pops' X-16's that had graphite shafts. they're really forgiving..light..the shafts he had were a mid-low kickpoint so it helped me get a feel of what a swing should be like...and the kp helped to get the ball up.
I switched to steel 7 months after i learned when i bought my mp-60's and here's a few things i noticed aside from the added weight

better ball striking...the flex of the shaft were more consistent and helped me learn control
feel - i know what i did right or wrong..but that's in combination with the club head too
it helped my tempo 10 fold.
I'd try to kill a ball everytime with the x16's in graphite, but when I went to steel, the weight forced me to slow it down and just make sure that I put a good swing on it.

at any rate, good luck...i'd go with the steel set

I started out learning on Big Bertha 96's with a graphite shaft. It was great and helped me a lot until I tried out my dad's Nike forged blades with a steel shaft. I got a good feel on my hits and misshits and helped me become a better ball striker.

I'd go with steel because you get more feel. Nothing wrong with graphite though. Go with what feels good for you.

Uhmmm....10 iron?

I didn't even question that. I don't know if the clubs he is looking at offer that configuration, but I have seen Callaway irons that offer a 10 iron. This is yet another reason that I steer clear of Callaway. It is just unusual. Is it like a gap wedge or what?

They have a 10i and i know that older callaway big berthas have 10i's(my dad has one). It's just a gap filler because they upped all the lofts on all the other clubs.

10i = 44* Pw = 48*

I actually kinda like the idea of a 10-iron because it fills the gap between the 9-iron and PW.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
