i use pinnacle balls, mostly. i have a little of everything in my bag (mostly top flite, the guy i get them from likes them, for some reason...)

i haven't seen anyone say anything about them, I usually use the Pinnacle Gold, are these worth a crap or am i the only one who prefers them?

I like them, they're a good cheaper ball.
Would my game be better if I used a different ball? Suggestions?

The golf ball we use IMO is all about what feels right for ME. Its no good paying out fortunes for the likes of pro v's if your a slicer or hooker ,the spin you get with these balls will just be exagerated.
I have used the pinnicle gold and found them OK. as you say a good cheaper ball.

Your game will only be better if the ball you use "feels better " for you. As we improve (hopefully) The ball that "feels better* will more likely be a more expensive one.

there's nothing wrong with using a cheap distance ball as long as you accomodate for it enough in your short game. I usually use mid price balls like burner tp or nxts because I don't feel like spending more and they have better short game spin/control than cheapo balls. I have some prov1s and tp balls etc and I like using them best because I can hit a couple shots more easily that I can with any balls that have less spin (eg. really low pitches that check up fast).

Pinnacles are OK for a low-priced ball. I used them a lot when I first started playing and lost balls all the time.
You know, if you guys cant see spending $50 for a dozen new Pro V1s, why not buy used? You can get a dozen refurbished Pro V1s for about $30, which is about the same as what a box of a dozen mid-range namebrand balls cost.

I saw people playing par with some Topflite or Pinnacle ball so i dont really understand the question if you feel comfortable with them why you have any doubt about them. And lets be honest here - if you belong to the mid-/higher hcp group and are prone to lose balls it would be silly to even consider more expensive balls.

I have found the refurbished balls rubbish, for the cheap alternative by all means buy good quality lake balls.

to me its worth spending a few extra dollars for a better ball

I used to try and play whatever I found, especially if I was at my local dog track just messing around but I can't check those things up for the life of me

Same here. There is a definete different from the cheap balls to the premium balls. The premium ones explode off of the clubface like they are shot out of a cannon and when you go for the green they take 2 hops and stop on a dime.

However, for someone who loses 3-4 balls per round, a premium ball might not be the best option. Not only will you spend a small fortune in balls, the softer, spinnier premium balls will exaggerate your hook/slice.

there is definitely a happy medium though... its not pinnacle vs a prov

I think that the nxt around 24.99 is a great ball choice, there also a ton of balls that fall in that priceline like bstone e6 that perform well for their value

I can't spin a nxt / tour as well as my prov1x but honestly if money is tight for me at the time the nxt is a suitable ball

well like I said, I'm young, I don't have a job, so mom has to buy the balls.

I thought about checking out the Top Flite D2's or the Freak's, I hit a XL 5000 that I found last wednesday and crushed it.

Golf balls are all about your budget and how much spin you want in your short game. If money is not an issue, the more expensive balls are definitely worth it. However, if you're a high handicapper (20+) and are on a budget, and lose a lot of balls, then you should definitely go with pinnacles or balls that are around $1 each. If you're a medium or low handicapper on a budget, I highly suggest the Bridgestone e5+ over the NXT Tour or any other mid level ball. It's a $25/dozen ball that has a urethane cover which is the only urethane cover ball that costs less than $40. All other mid price balls are made with a surlyn cover or some sort of surlyn blend.

If any of you out there are worried about distance, don't stress about it too much. Golf balls have less than 10 yards of difference in terms of distance off the driver with a 90mph swing speed except for the nike one platinum. Of course, if your driver swing speed is less than that, the less distance difference there will be.

Check out the wilson staff 50. 20(and ive seen them for less than that) a dozen, pretty durable and they get nice spin(I've stopped shots on a dime[look at my hcp]). I love them, but i'm still checking around.

Played with a friend who got the TF Freaks, seemed to be a great ball for the money. We are going to try the Gamers this week. Go to the TF web site and watch the commericals, especially the "interview" with "D2 Man", it is too funny. Callaway Warbird is a good ball as well.... jmoc

    • This is my second year playing golf, I started last season but have always struggled with a slice. I've tried multiple things to try and fix the slice: Closing the face. Rotating my right hand out or clockwise in the grip. Keeping the club head low in my back swing. Focusing on a straight swing path. Trying the straighter arms like Bryson D. (as seen in the videos above) Trying to not let me hips get too far ahead of my down swing. Trying to keep my shoulders down until after I've made contact with the ball. Etc. I recently changed to the straighter arms which has helped me adjust away from such a drastic slice. So it has helped a bit. Before that, I was trying to keep the club head low in the back swing and this was the most helpful in correcting the slice, however it drastically removed power and distance in the strikes and would even sometimes result in a hook. About a couple months ago I had a single lesson with my driver and learned some helpful things, but have since struggled to perform what I learned well. One of the things in the lesson was to keep my shoulder down more in the the down swing until after making contact with the ball. This would help the slice a bit, sometimes drawing the ball. To even it out, I was instructed to rotate my hips a bit earlier in the down swing. What I have noticed however with the earlier hip rotation is that it's really hurting my lower back a lot. Since backing off on that it's helped not injure my low back as much. I believe my main issue might possibly be the swing path, being a Pull Slice.   See above, was mid typing when you posted. I have never watched Moe Norman's swing to be honest. I have never measure my hip rotation, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on that after you read about my hip rotation / back pain issue.
    • Two questions… Are you trying to swing like Moe Norman? What's your hip turn like? Have you ever measured it?
    • I've been Playing Golf for: 2 years My current handicap index or average score is: 18 Index My typical ball flight is: Slice/Fade with a driver and FW. Generally straight with irons, varies some days left or right. The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Driver slice. Videos:
    • What are the best drills to practice awareness for club face control? This one came to mind after remembering a bit from the latest release of the podcast. I also think that I have poor club face to path awareness.
    • What is the best way to practice short game shots if you don’t have a green available to practice on? Should you also film your short game swings and putting practice?
