I normally use regular flex clubs however I seen a 3 wood that I was intrested in buying but it was firm flex. Just curios if there would be a lot of difference. I am sure if you dont have a fast enough club head speed that a firm flex would loose distance however I would think it would be more acurate.

Also would the senior be less firm than a regular flex?

Also would firm and stiff shaft be about the same just different vocabulary from different manufactories.

Thanks

My swing speed suggests Regular flex, although I bought my driver in stiff to up the accuracy a bit. I now hit everything straight down the middle. Now I got my 3W reshafted to stiff.

I was thinking about getting a strong 3/13 degree 3 wood. Mainly for teeing off. I just dont hit my driver well (Titlest 983K). I am a high handicapper and thought it would be better off for more control.

I went to stiff just because I wanted the accuracy. I was brought up on on accuracy over distance. But that's just what I learned as so I am bias and say yeah you may loose distance but its with good cause I think

I don't know about losing distance. I gained distance with my Sumo2 Stiff over my R7 Draw Reg, even though I have a slower swing speed.

I just ordered from Rock Bottow a Nickent 12*strong 3 stiff. I am planning on using this for my driver. At least untill I improve. With this club at least I should have more control than I do on my regular driver.

I use firm flex on my woods and hybrids. I tend to hook the ball so firm seems to help straighten out my shots.

FYI, 3-wood is the second toughest club to hit.

It depends on how a lot is "a lot" for you. Regular and firm do have a difference otherwise they'd be labeled the same. Unless you're talking about SR (stiff regular) which is in the between, though not many shaft manufacturers have this kind of flex. Slower swing speed using firmer flex would cause lower trajectory thus loss in distance like you said there. Not to mention it'd feel dead at impact. Accurate? It's not necessarily true in this context. If it's true, I'd recommend X-flex to anyone and myself. The flex chart: A

Standard 15* 3-wood is quite tough, let alone strong 13* 3-wood. I'd suggest you to start off from the right track, which is using driver. Many people don't hit their driver well. Heck, even the number one golfer, Tiger Woods can't get fairways all the time. The key is to find an instructor, practice and get better at it. For me driver is easier to use than 3-wood, because driver nowadays have higher MOI enough to promote forgiveness on off center hits. While on 3-wood's club face is smaller, which means smaller room of error. So there's no excuse for me (and other golfers and other PGA tour pros, except maybe Phil Mickelson in US Open 2008) to substitute driver with a strong 3-wood.

But everyone's to their own. If using 3-wood works for you, then go ahead power to you. Hope that helps.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
