I know I know, get fitted professionaly.

Unfortunatley, I'm on a budget and don't have time or a place to get fitted for a shaft.

Anyways, I'm currently using my 10 year old Callaway Big Bertha Steelhead 10 degree driver. It has a RCH 99 firm flex shaft.

I hit the ball averagely high, don't have trouble putting the ball in the air and rarley balloon my shots. My driver has a pretty solid ball fight, not too high, not too low.

I hit it about 250 on average and usually with a fade. I'll hit about 8/10 drives great with one or two strong fade/30 yard slices 1 out of 10 times.

I'm 5'11 and have a swing speed between 95-100 mph with my driver.

I find that if I try to put extra power on my drives they usually go right.

These are the stats for my current shaft:

firm flex, weight: 72 Torque: 4.5 Tip Diam: .335" Butt diam: .600"

I am looking at a pre-owned tour edge exotics driver.

This baby comes in three shaft options:

Which of these shafts would you recommend for me? I'm looking for control and don't really care about adding too much distance.

Thank you all in advance!

I'd get stiff if I were you. I think you're borderlined between regular and stiff and you never want to get a shaft that's too weak.
What I Play:

Driver: Sasquatch SUMO² 9.5º Stiff
Hybrid: HiBore 16º (3W replacement)
Irons: Staff Ci6 3-PW StiffWedges: Vokey Spin Milled 54.10 60.04Putter: Newport Studio Style 35"Ball: Pro V1xAge: 15

More distance, go with regular, more control go with the stiffer flex. You will have to adjust with either. Personally I would go with the stiffer because 275 in the fairway is better than 285 in the rough. Of those shafts the NV 65 is a great smooth shaft, love the 75 when I had it.

Which shaft would you recommend if I want to gain control and keep my ball flight? The exotics is 10.5 loft vs 10 for my current driver, the exotics is also known to hit the ball high.

Is your handicap 360? I hit the ball hard and I use a regular shaft from Diamana in my Taylor Made R5 TP driver.

I flirted with a 10 handicap when I was 17, I just picked up the game again at 22. Im a bit inconsistent but I am quickly gaining back my form.

I played in Chile, never really got fitted for clubs or messed around with crap too much back then and there. I've always been pretty standard when measured.

I think the stiff 51g would suit you perfect, the fourth one down.

aeroburner tp 10.5 stiff
superfast tp 2.0 3 wood stiff
Halo 25 and taylormade tp 19 degree hybrids
miura cb 202 and wedge
tp 52* wedge, tp 56* taylormade spider mallet putter

Newer 460cc drivers often launch higher than older drivers at corresponding lofts. So I ould go with something about a 1/2 degree lower loft.

AS for shaft, you could go with either NV or the YS. The NV will keep the control up,but the troque number is a little lower. This will make it tougher to get around the ball, and may increase your fade. The YS will decrease the fade, but may not be quite as accurate due to the lighter weight. Btw, you should go stiff with whichever you choose.

Best of luck!

From the stats you gave, I'd recommend their 10.5 degree with Aldila NV-65 Regular for softer feel and a bit more of distance or Stiff for control.

What's in the bag:
Driver: r7 SuperQuad 10.5° ~ UST Proforce V2 65g Regular
Wood: 906F4 18.5° ~ Aldila VS Proto 80g Stiff
Irons: MP-60 3-PW ~ True Temper Tour Concept S3
Wedges: Vokey Oil Can 252.08, SM56.10 & SM60.08Putter: Marxman Mallet 33"

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
