I hit these clubs recently and I really liked them. I know they are billed as a "players iron" but they definitely do not look as intimidating as most players irons when you look down at them at address. Nor did they appear to be as difficult to hit. I thought they were a little more forgiving than the Mizuno MP57's, which I guess are in the same ball park.

I thought they had a nice mix of forgiveness and feel, still letting you know when you didn't hit it dead solid, but not really punishing you on a off center hit. Pured shots felt nice, great ball flight.

Does anyone own a set? Curious as to how you like them.

Thanks.

I was on the fence of getting them, but I went with the MP57's...I've never hit them though, to be honest. I never got around to demo'ing them, but the appearence is nice. If you hit them well you'd be able to handle them as a 12.9 handicap.

That's what I was worried about, that I was going over my head with these but I don't think so. I like the feedback and I want to improve, so I think these may be good for me.

Comparing them to the MP57's...a pured shot on the R7's felt nice, but nothing compared to the buttery feel of the Mizuno's. Those clubs are beautiful. For some reason I struggled with them overall, though. Maybe I should go back and demo them again.

Ech, I disagree. Hated the feel of the r7 TP irons. Couldn't get rid of them fast enough. No feel at all for a "good player" set of irons.

I think the MP-57's would be a far better choice then the r7's.

The feel on center hits isn't as good as my MP-30s but I'll tell you it feels like the sweet spot is twice as big. I think they give enough feedback and are workable enough but definitely very forgiving. As a legit 12.9 handicap you should have no problem with them at all.

I agree with you 1,000%. I bought them and played with them for three rounds and could'nt get rid of them fast enough. NO FEEL for "players irons" as said above.

Hey Finn, how do you like those Golfsmith G40 irons?

I just ordered myself some of the new snake eyes forged 675XC's and I can't wait to play them! I've heard only good things about Golfsmith's components.

As for the R7 TPs, i never hit them, but I almost got the regular R7s. Felt great all around, and the ball still flew on mishits. Of course, that doesn't help you at all, so i'll shut up!

good luck

im looking into buying these irons. Ive only hit the 6 iron in the store and it seems pretty nice. I'd say im an above average ballstriker but certainly dont hit it flush every time.
Does anyone have any opinions on them?

I've hit them and they are really nice. Not as forgiving as my AP2's but they are a close 2nd. My club decision came down to those two with the AP2's winning out. You might check out the non-TP R-7's, they will probably be a little easier to hit and they are on closeout sales everywhere.

I looked at the non-TP R7's. The heads are pretty large and there is a significant amount of offset. Just an FYI to those who may be considering them. They are pretty cheap right now though - seeing sets in the $350-$400 range I think.

I have a set of the non-TP R7's and I thought they were decent. At the price they are now, they are hard to beat IMO.

just mentioning that i found perfect condition tp's on ebay for $426 shipped. I got fitted and then just took the specs and looked online. They came 4i-SW and it included the black taylormade monaco cart bag. I felt it was too good to pass up. Hopefully it works out for the best.

Well, I went back and took the MP57's for another spin. I was really on the fence between these and the r7 tp's. After first disliking the MP57's for some strange reason, the second go around was much different. They had a couple clubs that were at my specs too, so I took those out for a demo and fell in love.

My MP57's arrived on Saturday and they are simply beautiful clubs. The feel and forgiveness combo with these clubs is amazing. Have only been to the range though, I cannot wait to take them out tomorrow for the first real test!!!

Got a pretty good deal on these I think, from global golf - they sell on ebay and also have a website. They were hit only a few times, sounds to me like they were made for someone (luckily with the same specs as I) and then they just didn't want them or immediately traded them in. Had the shafts I wanted an everything. Anyway, it was a steal, $330 for these clubs that are virtually brand new.

Nice grab Nassau: I tried the 57's as well and Didn't like them at all. Maybe I just couldn't hit the ball that day, but nothing felt right. I didn't get a single sweet hit. Infact, my old irons felt better.

Unfortunatly, those are leaving the bag in about a week.

    • The first bit of 6.3 says teeing area rules apply when: The player is starting play of the hole (see Rule 6.1), The player will play again from the teeing area under a Rule (see Rule 14.6), or The player’s ball is in play in the teeing area after a stroke or after the player has taken relief. So yes, if you take Unplayable Relief in the Teeing Area, you can then move it or tee it up.  Note that for Back on the Line penalty relief, for Unplayable or Penalty Area, the relief area may be any area of the course.  For free relief, you must usually end up in the same area of the course as your ball was previously, That means you can't take relief from a sprinkler head for a ball in the General Area and drop in the Teeing Area.
    • Pulling for Spaun or Hovland
    • Backswing: Finally getting the swing shorter. Right elbow is a tad too bent, but at least it’s not overly bent and behind me. Basically, my previous posts on just feeling more lateral shift right, internal hip rotation. This time I added in a large amount of feeling grip pressure peaking at A2. Just holding that grip pressure constant in transition. It’s added a bit of sensory feedback for where my hands are at and it control the club a bitter more.  Downswing: Making the swing this short has messed up my timing with my downswing stuff. The swing feels like 50% shorter in duration. I got to retrain pausing a bit and my downswing stuff.  On the positive. This is 3-4 range sessions in a row where the swing has been consistently shorter.
    • At least the scores are pretty close …otherwise..gotta be one of the most un-noteworthy leaderboards on day two in recent US OPEN history …🫩
    • Agreed, the way the rule reads is, "If the player’s ball in play is in the teeing area after A stroke."  It states A stroke, not the FIRST stroke on that hole. It specifies this applies to missing the ball and a drive that does not leave that teeing area but does not make a provision for any other stroke. The rules however define the teeing area as "The area the player must play from in starting the hole they are playing." and further states that "All other teeing locations on the course (whether on the same hole or any other hole) are part of the general area." The way I read it is if your ball comes to rest on the tee box you started the hole from you can re-tee it, but not from another tee box on that hole or another hole. An interesting way I think someone could use this rule is if they topped a drive then topped a fairway wood, and had let's say 300 in from a terrible lie, not confident they can get a fairway wood in the air. If the tee box is back on the line for an unplayable drop, they could drop in the tee box and re-tee. Super specific instance, and am not sure if the rule applies after a drop and not a stroke...
