So I finally got out with my new driver this past week. I recently switched from the Titleist D1 I had been playing (7.5*/VS Proto) largely in part to some swing changes I had been tinkering with, lost confidence in the D1, and someone offering me nearly what I paid for it a year ago (read cheapness). I went to my local Golfsmith and Golf Galaxy after not having any luck at my club and hit about everything on the shelves. It came down to the Ping and the Mizuno MP-600. I wound up with the G10 (9*) with the Prolaunch Red due to the additional forgiveness I felt like the Ping afforded me on my mishits.

I have to admit that I wasn't real sure what to expect standing over the ball on number one. I had been struggling with fairways, and really was considering 3W on a long par 5 to open with. Thankfully, I stepped away, cleared my head, and went at it like I was supposed to - and it held up its end of the deal. I wound up the day hitting 10/13 fairways which was an all time best for me. I lost no balls (from my driver (lost one with a 5i on a par 3 no less)) and had the best day from the tee box I can recall.

This is the first Ping I have ever owned aside from a putter. Its just one of those brands I have never been exposed to a great deal. The G10 offered tremendous forgiveness to about three swings I felt were really bad (bigtime toe hits) and allowed me to keep the ball in play. Eventually as my day came to the last of the long driving holes, I went after one and caught it perfectly. The feeling was every bit as pure as the Titleist with about 10 more yards of carry (speculation based on past drives on the hole).

At least for now, it looks like the G10 is here to stay. It really is a great club, with a nice look at address. I would recommend it to any fast swinger struggling with less forgiving clubs.

Hope this helps!

Awesome. Confidence with your driver helps a lot, too. Now that you've got a good one that fits you and that you are comfortable with, I'm sure you'll be having tons of fun with it.

I have to admit that I'm a bit jealous.

I wanted to try this driver at the local golf shop on the lanch monitor but they didn't have it.

I tried every single new driver by every brand and my old taylormade R510 went the furthest out of all of them.

i've got a G10 in a stiff flex, UST shaft and unfortunantly, it's way too flexy for me.

I love my pings, but the new G10 just didn't give me the feedback I was expecting. it has no feeling and kinda num off the tee. while it goes really straight and gets out there. I just never know if it was a good shot or not. you know how some drivers if you miss hit them you know it right away, and can feel it. I thought ping other drivers were better in this category. IMHO

Gotta love the g10. It's one of the most forgiving drivers I've ever tried.

I have the G10 3 wood and it's by far the easiest 3 wood I've ever owned.

It's good to know that if I'm having a bad driving day I can use my G10 and be right down the middle.

This is encouraging.

I played 27 holes on Friday and felt like my game is finally coming around after these last few rounds (I resumed playing in May after a 4-year layoff).

My driving was vastly improved but still hitting it low with lots of roll.

After leaving the course I stopped at a local golf shop that sells Ping products and ordered a G10 driver in 10.5 with the UST stiff. I can't wait.

I'm really enjoying the G10 hybrid I have. It makes short work of 205 yard shots.

Good luck with your G10.....may we all have more sucess hitting fairways.

Next purchase will be the 15.5 degree G10 3 wood and then perhaps a Yes putter.

Long and straight is exactly what I need out of my driver. I am no where near good enough to expect consistent fades/draws off the box - so I wont even try them. Keeping it (findable) in the short grass for now is perfectly okay with me. Almost anything beats OB!

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
