Too tight a lie and you may skull the shot.

With the proper technique and the same amount of practice you'd attribute to any other shot type....you would be able to hit lobs off the pavement with good success They arent that terribly difficult. People just think by playing it forward they'll achieve the best results and instead they just skull them. Put the ball in the middle of your stance and learn the proper swing and you'll be fine. Theres no reason to try to "figure out" what to do when there are plenty of resources available telling you exactly how to do it. Pick up a dave pelz or stan utley book.

I actually got to use this shot once today. Inside 15 yards I had to fly a sand trap, it was beautiful, I left it about 7 feet short of the pin but I was very pleased. Thanks for all the advice guys.

hitting a high shot consistenly with the 60 degree wedges requires your contacts to be solid each time and the position of your wedge.

Wedge set up
I like to have my feet close together and my hip slightly open my knee are bent slightly and the weight is on my front foot, now the most important part of the chip shot is to swing with only your shoulders and take your hands out of the chip shot, I also like to keep my right elbow against my body when I am chipping.

Position of the 60 wedge
The best position for the highest shot is with the above wedge set up and the ball as far forward as possible to take advantge of the loft of the wedge, I would start by making solid contact with this forwards wedge position before I start opening the face of the wedge to gain for loft.

Important
Keep your hands out of the chipping and move back and through with only your shoulders.

I think chipping is being confused with pitching. I use a putting grip and stroke when chipping. When pitching I play the ball back to spin it and more forward to add loft. If it need to get high and soft, I use the type of shot that I would try out of sand but make sure you do not have a lot of bounce in your lob wedge. If so play middle of stance.

I learned how to do this from hours of practise and now I perfect it. I open the stance and pla the ball not directly in the middle just slightly forward. I open the club face as open till it feels good. I use a light grip and a gentle swing. Balls goes about 18 feet high and normally sits an inch or 2 from where it hit the green.

What changes do you make for uphill or downhill lies, close lies, longer grass? swing straight back, outside in, inside out, please clarify.

    • Day 1: After a long practice layoff due to injury, vacation, winter darkness, and work stuff, I'm trying to start back up again. Today I just hit balls with keys from my lesson 6-ish weeks ago; neutral grip and centered turn. Gonna work with that for a few weeks, see how it goes, and then get a lesson scheduled.
    • It’s not live on free to air tv in the UK, and hasn’t been since 1995. ( I pay a subscription to Sky for generally good golf coverage). There are limited highlights on the BBC for some golf events, but that’s it. Are other/all PGA events on NBC?  Allowing ticket scalping is a systemic failure across sports and showbiz, which could be legislated against, but in the UK is not in any meaningful way. I don’t know much about the secondary market in the US or anti scalping measures.  Charging more to keep prices down is an interesting concept, in practice no doubt you are right even if It sounds a bit Catch 22  Do you think sports tickets and broadcast rights  should be sold on a purely capitalist basis, or is there an argument to say that some sports might benefit more from wider exposure and affordable access. ( golf in the US is apparently not one of these if tickets sold out at those prices so quickly)  Fans might benefit from cheaper tickets and in the UK at least, TV coverage that reaches a wider audience.
