I have been seriously contemplating training myself for distance control and feel. My brother in law putts with a True blade putter like the ones you use in the Putt Putt golf course (aka Bulls eye putter). He can putt with anything you put into his hands. I would like to train myself to do this too.

I was playing around with a Scotty Cameron American Classic Bullseye putter and was wondering if I should go high end with one of these or just get a Wilson Augusta putter. These putters feel well balanced and I don't have problems with a pendulum stroke utilizing them.

I have a Yes! Marilyn which I putt pretty well with but it doesn't have much feedback.

Any pitfalls to this approach or thinking?

I think the Augusta is a great putter for the money. I have considered buying one but I have an old Spalding TPM that fills my classic putter needs (although it doesn't have the feel of the Augusta). I haven't tried the SC but can't imagine that it could be 10x better, which is about the difference in price.

Oh, and going for feel is a great idea in my opinion. About the only compliment I've ever gotten on my golf game is that I have a "nice touch" on the greens.

A classic design blade (like a SC newport, Ping Zing etc etc) would do the trick

I dont really think you'd need to resort to the old school bullseye... you could also look into a napa style putter (yonex super adx forged blade = amazingly stunning to look at)

the putters mentioned above fall in the traditional category and their MOI ratings arent off the charts, so learning speed using them would be fine

I used to use a Wilson Augusta putter and it has a nice, soft feel to it. The only downside I see to that putter is that there is no alignment mark, so you gotta kinda guess where the sweetspot is.
Thats why I like the Bulls-Eye better, it has a notch on the top of the head that helps you line up with the ball.
Another option if you want a putter like this would be a Scotty Cameron Circa 62 #1. Its an oldschool offset blade.
I started out using putters like this (started out with a Wilson Augusta and then went to a Titleist Bulls-Eye) and I feel that it made me a much better putter in the long run because it forced me to learn the proper putting technique, taught me to hit the sweetspot and taught me how to feel distance.

Recently I received abuse because I suggested changing putters. Product loyalty is helping the profit margin. I pay regular golf with a "Thing" which is a tiny putter head. I don't want a "forgiving putter" when just playing golf. When playing for money or in a tournament outcomes the Cameron Flange and the game is on. Product Loyalists will say you shouldn't do this but it works for me.

When putting is bad some lock their putter in the dark closet to punish it. Huh?

That is exactly what I tried today after getting a Bullseye. I concentrated on my form and bringing the dot back to the address position. I just sank 2 25 footers in a row. I think that this will be a great training aid but it may become the Gamer.

If it works for you, go with it. People can say what they want about how dated the Bulls-Eye was, but the simple fact is that it was made from the '70s-'03 with very few changes because it worked very well.

I realize MOI and perimeter weighting is the rage. It is intimidating to see just a blade without any perimeter weighting. But even with my other putters, I have no problems with off centered hits.

However, as I tried it out today, I concentrated on pure technique. The feel was amazing.

I recently switch from a Scotty Cameron Newport 2 to a Yonex blade putter and loved the feedback I was getting from the forged blade. I switched back to the Scotty Cameron today and I putted well.

Another blade putter you might consider is the Arnold Palmer original from Odyssey, its a forged blade putter.

Amen to that. The Bulls-Eye will definetly punish you harshly for off-center hits and poor technique.

Well after 2 hours of practice I am more confident with the Blade over the SC Studio Stainless putter. I have better touch and feedback than the Yes! Marilyn.

I believe it. The blade wont be as forgiving of your mishits as the SC will be. If you make a mishit, you will instantly know it.

I recently switched from my Newport 2 to an old blade putter from Yonex the Super ADX and the first day out made 4 birdies in a roll with a total of 6 birdies, but the magic has disappeared and I put my Newport 2 back in my bag.

I may switch back again but only the putting gods know.
