I would love to play a course that had caddies. I'd do it once just for the experience. I suspect having a caddie who has a lot of experience at a specific course would make for quite an enjoyable round filled with valuable information and interesting stories of their past experiences.

How in the heck could you keep your mind on the game with a caddy like this? ....unless you play for the other team.

Totally agreed ! I have used a few caddies when I played in China , Indonesia and Malaysia. I had one caddie who has 30+ years of experience and he can tell and advise you the best approach on each hole. Even I play the course for the 1st time , I score 4 over on a 6300m par 72 course . The experience is totally awesome .

Used caddies on recent Scotland pilgrimmage -- a very good thing! Hired caddies at Troon, The Old Course, and Carnoustie, and had a forecaddie at Western Gailes (best course I'd never heard of). With a two to four club wind every day and no prior knowledge, they were indispensible, especially with reading putts and finding, um, 'errant shots'. Still didn't break 90 all week, but that wasn't the caddies' fault.

Went with a group of guys for almost a month - best golfing adventure of my life. We hired caddies every opportunity we had. For me, playing with a caddy is quite a different experience than riding or toting. If you can afford a caddy option, take it. Some will be good with club selection/reading greens, while others won't help much in thoses areas, but as long as they keep up and perform their other duties well, they're an asset. Wish there were more opportunities to hire them.

Not sure if you realize it or not, but you are responding to a four year old post by a guy who is banned.

On topic... I'd love to have the scratch and play at a course with caddies.

I didnt realize that, actually we spell realise with an s Im just copying you there.  what do you mean by have the scratch ?   as for caddies its hit and miss imo, a good caddie will definitely improve your day in lots of different ways and save you quite a few shots, a bad one is just a bag carrier who will give yardages and bad reads, if you ever get the chance to choose your caddie from some presented to your fourball go for the one who looks most like a golfer.

We refer to money as scratch sometimes. :-P
