9i, Where in your stance?

I don't want to tell anyone their business, but you'll be hard pressed to find any good instructors or professionals that play ANY normal shot back of the middle of their stance. Certain shots are played with the ball that far back but only if you are trying to hit some type of knockdown or low punch.

I agree with this, even though I didn't necesarily play this way until recently. I've been slowly moving them forward. I doubt I'll ever subscribe to the Jack way, but I'm slowly buying into #2.

Previously I had said the heck with it, and told myself that I was going to play basically everything in the middle, with wedges slightly back, except 3 wood and driver. Because that was the most comfortable. But as you mentioned, the extreme delofting casuses problems at times. Really hard to control distance and get a handle on how far you can comfortably hit a club. not too mention the excessive spin with the shorter irons. My best iron shots are when I swipe a rather long shallow divot, opposed to one 4 inches deep. I can really only do this with the ball more forward in my stance so I can extend and get my weight to my front foot properly. It's been tough though to make this change. Still need to work on it quite a bit to get comfortable.

Yeah, I am about a ball forward of middle of my stance. I don't like anything further back than middle on any club, except when chipping, etc.
