went to the range with the intent on getting really straight with my 3 wood and after 20 balls i was happy with the progress. so i decided to hit my 7i a bit. practiced the interlocking grip (i use baseball and grip really tight) which i liked on impact, but didnt feel very sturdy in hand. then by accident i came over the top too much and hit a little baby draw! then i tilted my club face to the left a little bit and took an inside - out swing plane and hit a really pretty draw! must have hit 30 more out of excitement! i could consistantly put it within 10 yards of the 120yd pin that was about 30 yards to the left of me. i was suprised how well it would make the ball stop because i have a bad problem with hitting the green then rolling it way off. i tried with my pw a little bit with some decent results. i ran into problems when i tried to hit it with my driver and 3wood. i try the same swing, but the clubhead always opens up when i make contact or i just hit a straight shot to the left that doesnt get much air. also i couldnt for the life of me figure out how to hit a damn fade!?! oh well. just figured id share an exciting moment.

i really wanna only get real good inside 50 yards with the fade so it hits the green and stops. i think ill be using a draw shot for now for minimal rolling.

any pointers on how to hit it with a wood or driver? is it just the same swing but i just gotta get used to it?

Thats strange that your draw stops quicker now then your normal shot. The draw should roll more than a straight ,& faded shot. Do you think your just getting under the ball more, maybe?

once I figured out how to hit a draw, I only go for it now. It's just easier for me to judge the accuracy and it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy to watch it curve left. Also, deciding to hit a draw takes out the difficulty in just taking a shot and trying to make it go straight. I make too many mistakes like that. Congrats on your swing.

Driver and three wood should be the same with the exception of ball position. You might have the ball too far back in your stance for those clubs.

the key to a good draw with driver or fairway wood is a propper and complete release, ball position and swing plane. When I want a 5 to 10 yard draw with driver or 3 wood I play the ball closer to the middle of my stance. An in to out swing plane and a complete release will create gear effect on the ball giving it the draw spin you desire.

The easiest way for me to hit a draw is to possition the ball, grip a tad strong to encourage the hands getting all the way thew and putting a nice smooth swing on it.
(If I overswing trying to get more distance I tend to block a bit firing the hipps too hard and don't get a full release)

As for the draw stopping sooner... Not sure I would use that plan with a wedge. My playing partner plays a draw and does get a ton of spin. He tends to use way more green than I do to get the ball stopped. I like a one hop stop personally.

I play a draw for my normal shot. I use a square stance with my irons, but I use a slightly closed stance with my metalwoods. The closed stance makes it easier and more consistent to swing inside-out with the long clubs.

Thanks! Like you say here, with my hybrids and driver I'm gonna try swinging to the right of the target, while hitting the ball with the club face square to the target. This should enable me to hit the draw.

    • Day 24: did a stack session. Worked a bit on downswing feels during breaks.
    • Day 444 - 2025-12-18 Light day of hotel room work. GEARS Summit v2.0 today. Good day.
    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
