Can't hit straight!

So I couldn't exactly figure out how to explain this but i'll try my best. I can't hit the ball straight, I don't have a hook or slice, it just doesnt go straight and I have no clue how to fix it. Is this common, how to fix it, and maybe some links on how to help me would be wonderful, thanks!

My feet are lined up with the blue path too.

Oh, I drew a diagram (lolol). The ball is following the RED flight path, I wish it followed the BLUE, and it doesn't follow the Black, but i wish it did because at least i know how to cure a slice.

PS: The ball always goes my right, never to the left.

It's called a push. It means the club is passing from in-out on the downswing with the club face square to the path of the club (not the target). If it was square to the target you would hit a draw.

Check www.golf.com in their instruction section. They have a particular video on fixing pushes. Don't worry, it's not that difficult to fix and it's way better than fixing slicing.

When I push the ball:

1) my hands are sometime too far from my body
2) my hips do not finish towards the target but the direction of my push
3) I may not be making a full turn on my backswing with my hips
4) I am not rotating around my body but swaying.

I push occasionally. I thought I was pushing all the time until I found out I had fallen for the 'alignment illusion'. What I thought was a 20* push was me hitting it straight at what I was technically aligned to.

Hitting straight is overrated. Landing on fairways and greens, now that is where it is at.

You might also have the ball too far back in your stance (I'm not sure what club you are referring to...unless its every club?).

Definitely a possibilty. Actually, I'm almost positive i put it too far back with my irons, but that is where i get the best contact with the ball.

I used to have a huge 'topping the ball' problem, and have the ball farther back was the solution i came up with, but now that i push the ball, I may try and move the ball farther up. And I'll make sure to check my hip rotation on both back and downswings. Thanks.

I have had this "pushing" issue for sometime now. I have done alot of research and there are many things to fix this problem.

The one solution that I have found most useful is to keep my head down and the brim of my hat still. I find my swing to be constant and sometimes straight.

It really does help when I keep my head down tho. Try to do as much research as possible. That doesn't mean try everything, but try and do what feels right. GL.

When I push it is caused by too much of an inside to out swing path. My cure is to close my stance up a little and swing a little less inside to out. This gets my clubhead to get square to the target.

Would it only be a push if the ball has flight to it? For example, the last time I went out and played, the last 5 holes (I only played 9) everything went at a 45 degree angle to the right, but no flight, it was on the ground. Didnt go that far either. I checked my grip and everything, but couldnt figure it out.

I'm no expert ( I'm actually terrible), but make sure not to move your head during your swing, that's what helped me a lot. It sounds like you're topping the ball, that's why there's no flight too it. Of course, it could be thousands of reasons, but thats my two cents.

Definitely wasnt a topping problem. When I first started I went through that issue (because of lifting my head) and when I top it, it goes dead straight, with a few little bounces from topping it so badly.

Sounds like the ball is hitting at least a part of the hosel (ie part where the shaft and club face meet). This can be attributed to several factors.

1. swing is too inside out. 2. standing too close to the ball 3. leading with the heel of your club I am sure that there are many more causes. I think you can cure this by moving away from the ball a little, closing your stance a little and trying not too swing too inside out.

GKB56 hit it on the head. If it's what I think it is, check your hosel and see if there are ball marks on it, if there is then you have the dreaded SH#NK$.

After I've hit a couple of them I use this remedy- take a few practice swings and see where you're taking your divot/impact mark and gauge the distance. When you address the ball note the distance you just measured and increase the distance by 1/2 ball width. Slow down your swing and don't bring it in so much from inside-out. And most important, focus on keeping your head still, do not let it lean in towards the ball. After a couple of clean strikes your head will clear and be able to hit them normally again. It's part of golf and we all get them every once in awhile.

p.s. If you cursed me by explaining this and I get the SH#NK$ tomorrow I'll hunt you down! =/

It could be a push it could be that you are hitting it straight where you aimed. Tough to say without seeing your swing.

Have some one stand behind you and tell you where your feet are aiming or aim way to the left and see if you can hit it straight.

      Sorry, I will disagree. You got a penalty because you hit it somewhere and didn't want to play it from there. Bunkers are not the general area. If you had hit it into temporary water in the general area, you'd be entitled to relief. You hit it into a hazard, a bunker. Why should you get free relief when you hit it into a bunker? If someone else hit it into a different part of the bunker, without water, they'd not get a drop for free out of the bunker. Heck, it'd cost them two strokes if they didn't have an ACC and wanted to drop it out of the bunker.

      I love golf, but we have some really dumb rules. Like this one, you get a penalty stroke because it rained.

      No. If there was a place no closer to the hole that afforded some relief, you could have dropped there. If you were truly as far away from the hole as you could, in the "back" of the bunker, then… your options were basically to play it as it lies (lied? lay?) or take the penalty stroke and drop behind the bunker (keeping the point where the ball was between your drop and the hole).
