All I know is the Dick's in Grove City, OH isn't like this. Their putting greens have huge breaks right before the cup, away from the cup. It's actually kind of hard to get them in b/c they are so fast and break so much right at the hole.

I don't think this is true in my opinion, I am sure you tried putting from different directions and besides there is a honeymoon period built into some putters that you try.

But if the greens were set up with very slight funnels around the cups (like a shower drain, only much less obvious), it wouldn't matter which direction you were putting from.

I have definitely noticed this at my local Golfsmith. I figure you can get the feel for the putters you like as long as you don't pay too much attention to making all those 15 footers!!

This is one of the sillier threads I've seen go to 3 pages long.

Frankly I think it's balderdash. I've putted in many stores, and if they did it like you say, you would see the ball turn visibly toward the hole on every putt. I've never seen that happen. I've also just taken a putter from the rack at the course pro shop and just putted it back and forth between a couple of chairs (with a chair leg as a target) and done that equally well. Since those chairs are not fixed, I'm quite sure that there is no hanky-panky going on.

IMO, some people just can't resist jumping on board a conspiracy theory, no matter how inane it might be.

So if the putting greens are rigged and I still miss putts does that mean my putting really sucks??

I take nothing from putting on the golf store carpets as they have nothing in common with the roll you get from an actual green on a golf course. I use the opportunity to get a feel for the putter and how the ball interacts with the club face.

As far as the rigging of the store carpet to favor the hole, I have no clue.

This is one of the sillier threads I've seen go to 3 pages long.

I'm not saying it's true, but to dismiss that it would be theoretically possible to design a store green in a way that funnels balls to the hole, when they would normally miss, is just as absurd as insisting that every store in the world participates in the "conspiracy." We're not talking about pushing the ball 3 feet by the hole, but still having it go in. We're talking about putts close to the hole. The diameter of the "funnel" and the degree of slope could be small enough that they wouldn't be noticeable.

Oh, and I don't see anyone jumping on a conspiracy bandwagon here. We're just talking. Not everything has to be a serious discussion. Some things are just meant to be fun.

Ha! Yes, I'm afraid. Sorry.

You could have broke it to me a little easier.
