Today i was putting for eagle on the No.6 496 yd par 5. Everyone was in the bunkers or in the rough but I was on the front fringe with about a 12 foot putt for eagle. It was finally my turn to hit and I go through my routine for putting, I have the line and right when I take the putter back one of the 4 other people in my group says, "Hey, Eric. Is this for eagle?!" I push it right and about 4 feet long. Oh my god, I turned irate! I was already 1 under and I was playing for $25. I had so many bad thoughts about him at that point in time. I ended up missing the birdie because I was so pissed off. I ended up losing the round to one of the other guys in my group. I just wanted to knock his lights out.

Yep. That was rude. Possibly on purpose. Maybe both. Any way you slice it, uncool every day to Sunday!

Kind of a similar situation. I'm putting for 8 carry-over skins on the 18th hole. It's a downhill breaker ... about 4 feet. Make it, I rake. Miss and we go onto 'sudden death' holes. Three guys standing within 10 feet of me with clenched fists, hunched over saying, 'misssss ittttt' under their collective breaths.

Let's just say, I made their day!

Wow, it's been a while. I'll have to put it in again. What the heck, that should just be my go-to response.

No, no! It's "50 bucks says the Smails kid picks his nose."

Sorry, off topic. Stuff happens. I would've backed off the putt and reloaded.

Getting back to topic, even if the guy was put off by the talking on the eagle putt, there is noone to blame for the birdie putt.
Getting angry is a lack of self control, SELF being the operative word there, as it indicates whose fault it is.

I've had a similar problem all season with a Sunday scramble match, me and a friend vs. our two Dads. It's a friendly match, but all of us like to win and we've been losing most of the year. My partner is kind of new to the game and the constant whispers of our Dads on the greens really get to him. It doesn't bother me for the most part, but it bothers me that it bothers him. We've tried to hint to them that they're not being very courteous, but they don't seem to get it. Of course these things tend to bother you a lot more when you're losing.

Try having this happen in a league where it's all friends and family. Was it in the back swing of the putt? If so, then it's total crap and likely intentional. If it was when you were standing over the ball but not mid swing, then it's still bush league but at that point you have to back off. I understand missing the birdie, but that one is on you. I have done it too many times to count, so you are not alone. Golf is always about the shot you are on, not the last one. I think one of the attributes of the better players is their ability to block everything out and focus on that shot. You would have still benn 2 under through 6. Not a bad start.
