anybody have a blog? i need suggestions for the easiest route to go. I'd like to set one up with my own domain name, but that seems like work to me, so i think i'd just prefer to go the freebee web based method.

My Blog

The only one I really have experience with is blogger.com. It's pretty easy and is becoming more customizable every day it seems. You also have the option, if you decide to buy a domain name of your own in the future, to purchase from somewhere like godaddy.com and have that name point to your blogger blog.

Well you can easily install a blog on your domain such as WordPress, which is free, easy to modify, has a lot of free third-party addons and layouts.

Some hosts have it even ready for you to press one button and it installs itself automatically.

Other than wordpress, you can also use Joomla, which is also free.

hmmm, do people have to join up just to leave a comment for that one?

I'm assuming you mean does someone have to join blogger in order to post comments? I don't know for sure, but if so, it's not such a bad idea. You'll find if/when you get a blog, if you allow for "anonymous" comments, you'll get a lot of spam from bots and the like who are either not real people or aren't looking to comment on your specific post. They are just looking to spam their product or website. So to require a signup process at the very least ensures the potential poster is a real person.

My blog is in my signature and I recommend Wordpress for all your blogging needs.

I use Bluehost and Drupal to blog.

I've used Joomla and much prefer Drupal.

Wordpress has some nice looking templates, but I can just make a similar theme in Drupal.

Of course, there is a steeper learning curve, but it is very powerful (taxonomy) and has much right out of the box.
