*Nechro's thread*

If Wen-Tang had not hit a career iron shot out of the trees on the 73rd hole, the kid would have won it.

He's has a lot of skill and, at 19, he is cooler under pressure than most tour veterans. Expect him to be a major force in the game in years to come. SubPar

He is, my friends, the real deal and will be the one to legitimately challenge Tiger for golfing dominance in the not to distant future. If not for the fact that our American friends often look no further than the US Tour for the games best players, Rory McIlroy would have been on the radar many many months ago. And you think Anthony Kim is going to be the one to challenge Tiger, ha ha!! Watch this space!!

Lets not forget about Jason Day!

"People think the size of the head is most important. Wrong. It's getting a quality shaft. test different shafts to see which goes the straightest. Also, more degrees of loft on the head is better than less. Eleven degrees is about right."

That was a very enjoyable play-off. McIlroy looked great. He and Lin Wen-tang both hit some amazing shots out of those trees.

Kaymer is the don on the European Tour, Rory does look good though as does Oliver Fisher. I wonder how Chris Woods will get on.

I expect Kaymer to be the one to push for the top spot very soon.

Once Oliver Wilson gets the first win he will be very hard to beat I know he is late 20's but still a relatively new name, and Ross Fisher will get better and better.

All McIlroy needs to do is finish inside the top 30-ish in either of his next two tournaments and that puts him inside the top 50 in the world, which I think gets him an invite to the Masters...

This young lad is a class act - he turned pro off a handicap of +6 which in anyone's world is pretty phenomenal!! He has already shot up the world rankings and is currently inside the top 50, or at least he was the last time I checked and potentially facing the prospect of playing in the Masters in April!!

Keep an eye on this young lad because he can go right to the top very quickly!!

Rory Mcilroy will be one of the best players to come out of europe in years. He is one of a new breed of players from the UK to come through who are roughly the same age e.g. Ollie Fisher, Chris Wood and Danny Willett. Then we have some pretty awesome teenagers in the amatuer scene like Tom Sherreard who i think is at Georgia, Matt Haines and Sam Hutsby.Rory etc will push on massively this year but watch out for the other names at the walker cup to really push Rickie Fowler and Jamie Lovemark

I'd also like to see Oliver Wilson and Ross Fisher become multiple winners.

I have a feeling Paul Casey is going to have a big year

This is how Rory is crushing it

Why do they bring up x-factor if it is not the reason for Rory's long driving? For the nice graphics?

Why do they bring up x-factor if it is not the reason for Rory's long driving? For the nice graphics?

Because the separation doesn't matter if both are moving slowly. X-factor is there because of the kinetic chain. It is how the sequencing works in the golf swing. They even said Rory doesn't have the largest X-Factor on tour. He does have hips that move 30% faster then the average tour player. For a person who is 6 inches shorter than most of the longest hitters on tour. What he lacks in swing arc, he makes up for in rotational speed.

Look at it this way. Which one would you think causes the fastest clubhead speed

X-Factor of 45 degrees, and hip rotation of 700 degrees per second

X-Factor of 70 degrees, and hip rotation of 400 degrees per second

Love how they mention Rory's consistently long drives. When he is on and hiotting it long on almost all of his drives he looks nearly unbeatable. His "A" game is just better.

    • Really well said. I'm honestly shocked to have anyone **even remotely **close to Tiger Woods, at his best. Insane, right? With health/fitness/technology (Trackman etc) now being everywhere, prize money going completely insane, and globalization being drastically advanced relative to 2000ish....Scheffler is beating better golfers than Tiger did (and beating far more of them from every corner of the globe). Remember when Tiger said (paraphrasing): "In the gym back then it was just me and Vijay"? THAT is one way you win the Masters by 12 and the US Open by 15.... All of these things combined are a point in Scottie's favor, but, I agree, he's still not on Tiger's level.  Yet. I don't think it's possible now or in the future. The fields are too deep and diverse, and, players seem too advanced and optimized (relative to the late 90's-early 2000's).
    • Well they’ve booth been arrested, but Scottie did it in his prime!

    • So strokes gained as split down by shot type doesn't exist prior to 2004. They need shotlink data to generate it and shotlink wasn't a thing prior to 2004. I am not 100% sure on this, but I think overall strokes gained is basically adjusted scoring average vs the tour average adjusted scoring average, so overall strokes gained you could come up with something reasonable for pre-2004.  Scheffler's strokes gained approach the past couple of years has been getting closer to where Tiger's was. His strokes gained approach was absurdly good and is basically the reason he was so good. Tiger also hit it far enough that his strokes gained driving was also pretty good despite all the talk about his driver being a problem. Tiger was a better putter and short game they're probably similar.  That said, Scottie has a ways to go to get close to Tiger's dominance. Tiger won 7 majors of 11 in a stretch from 1999 PGA to 2002 US Open. He also had a 5, 6 and I think 7 consecutive win streak in PGA Tour events. At his highest, his OWGR points was nearly three times as much as 2nd place.
    • Scheffler Prime vs. Tiger Woods' Prime? - Google Sheets Have been thinking two things recently; 1) Scheffler is the second best golfer (all around) that I've ever seen (been a die hard fan since 1992) 2) His relentless success *might* be even approaching Tiger's prime. Thoughts? Also, what about strokes gained for both (not as well versed in/familiar in that approach), nor do I know where to find it for pre 2004. Thanks, everyone!!
