Ok here's the deal, a co-worker of mine has a daughter that just graduated from high school in June. Her daughter decided to join the Army. While during boot camp she started having a medical problem that they attribute to being genetic. She is being discharged from the Army but they are not sure when she will be discharged. The local college that she is planning on attending starts on the 24th of this month. Registration ends on the 19th. All fees have to be paid then. If she does not get enrolled for the fall quarter will the Insurance carrier drop her or will she be ok until the winter quarter starts in January? Has anyone ran into this situation before with their own kid/or kids?

This would be a question that your co-worker would need to call the insurance company on. Policies differ so much any more. My policy actually covers my kids even when they are in the military (even though military has their own). I have seen some cover kids up to age 23 regardless of student status.

Bottom line, they need to call on this one.

I'd be getting in touch with the insurance carrier on whether she'll be covered or not. Seems like that's awful important to be trusting to a golf forum.
My Equipment:
Northwestern 3-, 5-, 7- and 9-wood;
Goldwin AVDP Irons (5-10 plus PW);
U.S. Golf 60 degree wedge;

I think she is going to contact the Insurance carrier but I figured I'd ask here and see if anyone had any "real world experience" with this one. Thanks for the info though guys.

Wish we could really help, I'd hate to give bad info on something important.
Good luck.

It might almost be worth it just to get her registered for the fall term regardless of whether or not she would be able to make it back in time to start classes.

It's been a long time since I attented a local college ( I assume we are talking about a JC or CC?) but the registration fees only amounted to about $100 back in the 80's -- what are they up to now?

What's in my bag:
Cleveland Hibore XLS Monster Driver
TourEdge Exotics 2,3,4 hybrid irons
Tommy Armour 845cs Silverbacks 5-PW
Assorted wedges, Ping Scottsdale Anser

Probably so. It seems like when I was in school you could get 100% refunded within a couple weeks of class starting. But you'd want to check on that info before laying out the money for it.

Good call.

Immts007 - I believe it's a CC but not 100% sure. When I attended the local CC it was about $800 for 12 credit hours. Remember the "children" have to be full time to be covered, well most insurance companies require that.

Smallville - I'm not sure about getting refunded 100% but I think it is a large majority of the money you get back. I know I did drop one class but I can't remember how much I got back. I do know that 100% of the book cost was refunded from the store.

Wow. I'm flabbergasted. When I went to Cal State Chico in the late 80's it was less than that for an entire year.

When I graduated High School and started attending Columbus State here in Ohio in 2001 it was about $800 per quarter for about 12 credit hours. That didn't include the text books. Needless to say the $4,000 I had saved up didn't last very long.

Yes. I took a medical semester off of school. You can keep your plan, covering it with a private plan (mine was Cobra/BCBS), then just pick it up again when you're back in school.

It costs a boatload. The second time I had to take a medical (it took me six years to finish, ok? ) I ended up just enrolling in three classes and purposely failing two of them, just so I didn't have to pay the cost. My insurance alone was way more than $800. I'm shocked your entire semester only cost that! That's good! Average semester for me was $4-5,000, fees/books excluded.
