I just registered for a gol-ball tournament in the middle of October ... Have any of you guys ever played in one of these ... how much fun are they? Do you lose those glo-balls easily?

It's going to be a shotgun start, scramble format ... and all the proceeds go one of the BIG children's hospitals here in New England ...

Any input on these types of tourneys? I am really excited about this and think it's going to be one hell of a time ...

were do you buy the glo balls at? They have night golf at the local muni course and thought it would be a fun way to spend an evening. i imagine it's probably a little harder to loose a glo ball because it does after all glo, so you would see it if you knocked it into the woods.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

I have seen them at all the "BIG" sports stores, and I have even seen them at all the "small" stores too ... they are redily availible ... but my registration fee includes glo-balls ...

I have never played night golf, but I think that it would be a lot of fun.

The junior section I was a member of had a night tournament each year. Was a good laugh!

The balls obviously didn't perform as well as regular ones and can recall knocking one in a bush and you could see it there glowing, after a couple of beers it almost looked like it was pulsating! Had glow in the dark cone shaped tees as well, that seemed to leak their fluid after a couple of heavy knocks!

IIRC there was some glow in the dark paint sprayed on the flags and around the edge of each green.

I played in a glow-ball tournament this year. Really good time.
As for losing balls, it depends on the type of balls. Our club included the glo-balls with the entry fee. Each team got a 6-pack of balls, and we only lost one that stopped lighting up as it was hit.

The balls we used were really awesome. They came in white, red and blue, and they must have had a battery in them. They lit up when you tapped them, and stayed lit for 10 minutes. The balls were called "Night Flyers". I was impressed, they flew about 90% of the distance of a regular ball.

Our tournament lit the 150 yd markers, the green, the flagstick, and the cup with glowsticks. Everyone played from the red tees (marked with red glowsticks), and everyone had to wear a glowing necklace or bracelet.

I play in the glo-ball tournament at my home club each summer. They are a blast. The glo-balls that were provided to us (two per person) were rock hard but they have a hole going through the ball in the middle where you slide in a mini glow stick. Kinda cool.

We also have to wear the glowing necklace. My club allowed you to bring out flash lights and flood light stuff, so you get some guys with their own carts hauling around lights almost as bright as the sun. They also hang a glow stick from the flag, but that's it.

Last year I almost made an ace on the very first hole. Ended up about an inch short. Was awesome.

One of the down falls with us playing is that it goes 'til 2 in the morning and the guys get really drunk and have air horns. The neighborhood doesn't much appreciate that...

That's how I like my golf. A kick in the face. -Ben

Kind of defeats the point doesn't it?

We do two of those a year at my club. End of Spring and start of Fall. 9 holes before sundown, then 9 holes in the dark. We have food and alcohol stations set up all over the course. By the end of the night everyone is pretty much hammered. A great time.

they had a night golf at the municipal course here, it was 4 of us and another group of 4 thats all that showed me, thought it would be fun to play night golf with a lil bit of drinks in us, HA *correction* alot of drinks, except my brother he drove

but it was pretty fun when i could actually hit the ball, my driver would skid the ground a lil bit and sparks would fly * i dunno if thats a good thing or not haha* but its really cool to see the ball fly, just bring a flashlight it helps a bit

Figured I should update this thread with some results as to how we played ... The winning team shot -9, the second place team was -6 and the third place team was -4 ... we finished at -3 (shotgun start, scramble format).

What an experience this was, would look into doing this more often on warmer nights. We couldn't complain because it was about 45 degrees all night, no wind and a BRIGHT BRIGHT New England Harvest Moon last night ... and when we had to tee off in front of the cemetery, well, it was just a little eerie!

Just a great experience and I would have to say that you should all do it at least once, understanding that it's just to go out and have a great time with friends and you aren't going to shoot the best round of your life.

We tried to take some pictures and video, and if we can manipulate those in any way that we can get something to come out I will post the pictures later.
