I added a 1H to the bag thinking it'd be a great replacement for a 5W. It didn't work for me. Low trajectory is the norm. Don't want another low running club. It is a beauty out of adverse lies, though....stuff that a 5W would struggle with.

When I switched to the WIlson Staff Hybrids, they have one called the FY Gap. It is 19.5 degree, but is larger than your typical 3H. It is supposed to bridge the gap between woods and hybrids. I absolutely love it.

Some people have a big gap between there. I hit a 3 wood about 240. I hit my 3 hybrid about 210. Thats a 30 yard gap that I wanted to bridge.

Birdieman,

What club do you use to gap your 4h and 6i? I'm assuming you don't have a 5i in your bag because: Driver 3W 5W 2 hybrids 3 Vokey wedges 1 putter Is 9 clubs, leaving room for 5 more. 6i-PW?? I can understand bridging the gap between 240 and 210, but not at the expense of a 30 yd gap in the midrange.

in my EDGE bag:

Conditions. I hit my 5w much higher than my 2 hybrid. I also hit it longer. So it depends on the course.

I actually alternate between my 2-iron and my 5 wood (both 18 degree) depending on the course conditions.

generally, if the fairway's are hard and the rough is long, i will put the 5 wood in play to get some roll (as i naturally hit the ball lower with my 5 wood) and it offers me better up-and-out when playing out of the 1st cut. Yet again, I think it boil's down to personal preference, course conditions, skill level and maximum performance. I personally, do not keep a hybrid in my bag anymore, i prefer my 21 degree 3 iron. and i like my 3 and 5 wood combo. Especially on my 2 home courses.

It depends on (1) your bag set up, taking into consideration your distance and preferred yardage coverage and (2) which you hit better more consistently. I'm a sweeper so am more comfortable with the 5W.
