Wait a minute, werent you the user that started the thread in which you said that Wal-Mart clubs feel the same as Pings

Is there anything wrong with wanting to own American-made clubs? I buy US-made goods whenever I can afford to.

So why ask the question about the Wal-mart clubs?

I hope you choose equipment from your needs and after testing, not limiting it to American brands.

I'll wait until february, march before I buy anything, don't need it before. I have to order in good time before the season, it can take some time before I get them after they are ordered from Golfsmith. When you plan on buying something, but don't need it for some time, it's hard to stop looking and reading about it.

Zeph: I'd be happy to buy European clubs too. I have some very well-crafted Norwegian knives and was willing to pay a little extra for them. I'm just trying to avoid Chinese-made goods when I can afford to.

Surefire: there's an American phrase: "Champagne taste and beer pocket money." It means you wish for Pings, but can only afford Wal-Mart in the meantime. That's me until I get a raise.

I'm going to buy a new iron set, most likely Mizuno, maybe Titleist.

Golfsmith usually has coupons and what not all the time. Buy whenever you feel like it. Those 2 brands you stated don't really go on sale.

Alex,

Go buy an old set of used clubs... even 10 year old sticks from a quality manufacturer will be better then some wal-mart or similar brand.

Hell, even old ping eye 2's in not so great condition would be better.

with the economy crashing, lots of folks are now selling designer handbags, jewelry, golf clubs and etceteras for extra money. with all the luxury items flooding the market, expect the prices to drop. i suggest waiting a few weeks to see if the prices will drop further. believe me, our economy is up shit crick with or without the bailout. on the other hand, buy the clubs today cuz better to spend all your money before its wothless

Well, I don't live in America, I just shop there. The dollar has for a long time been on 5-5.5 NOK, but the last days it has gone from 5.0 to 6. I'll wait with shoppin until the economy has stabilized. I might buy if it should fall to 4-ish, but that's very unlikely. I don't need the clubs now anyways. I'm buying clubs, bag and other equipment, saving a couple of dollars won't matter that much.

I like to buy stuff on eBay during the winter months. The deals are better and you can get a lower price more frequently. Conversly, I like to sell golf stuff on ebay during the spring-summer.

I've thought about Ebay, but since I want it customized it'll be slightly more difficult.

My worry about Ebay is counterfeit equipment.

Right now is a pretty good time to buy clubs. Golfsmith and TGW are both having sales on sets they are trying to dump before the new clubs hit the rack -- witness the recent price drop on the Nike drivers, which went from $399 to $179 overnight.

If I weren't one of those people (e.g., sheep) who constantly have to have whatever is allegedly "new and improved," I would not have my current clubs in my bag, but the best clubs that were available two years ago (i.e., that were the "hot" clubs then). I'm sure that set would play just as well as what I've got now, and I could fill my whole bag for $1000 easy. I don't recall that there were any real equipment breakthroughs since 2006 and 2007, so why not buy the remainders from those years and see what you can get?

I have, and they just did, it's just I don't need them right away. They won't be discounted for a year. I have the option of buying the older models a bit cheaper, or the brand new ones. I'll hold my horses just yet and see if some good offers come.

Stick with big sellers like 3ballsgolf.

You can't go wrong and there is no way you will get dodgy gear from them.

Hmm, now I'm not sure anymore. On eBay I can get a set for 1/3rd of the new price. I might just buy a used set from eBay and wait with the brand new, customized set until i've gotten better. $300 instead of $900-1000 is quite a lot of money.
