Scotty Cameron Studio Stainless custom paintfill

Ive been reading all these posts about changing the paintfill on clubs, and im very interested in doing this to my putter. Problem is, im worried about ruining the finish and was wondering how difficult it is to do with a putter. Has anyone done this with their Cameron????

Will Acetone ruin the finish?

Will i be able to send the custom paintfilled putter to Scotty Cameron for refinishing?

I dont get why people are so weird about scotty camerons and special paint and stuff. And why people pay like 5 grand for a putter because it has special colors the 300 dollar ones don't. They scotty cameron people that do that seem more like collectors than players to me. I don't have a problem with them, I just think it's weird they care more how it looks than how it plays

I almost have to disagree, custom paint-fills NOT done by the Cameron Shop will dramatically decrease the value of the putter. But yes, there is a cultish culture around SC putters that goes beyond its practical application on the greens.

Not if you get the paint fill put on by someone who knows what they are doing, like Slieghter Golf.

ok, to refocus the meaning of the post.

If i do this myself can i ruin the finish with the acetone?

Any experience doing this?

Any info is appreciated, i do not want to send it to the custom shop.

I personally don't know the answers you seek, but if I can throw my .02 in here, I would do it myself. By the fact that you're asking these questions obviously means that you don't have much experience with paints and metals and how they work with each other (I don't either), so I wouldn't go doing something like that on a Cameron unless I was completely sure of the results.

no... trust me, do it yourself! It's not worth sending your putter in for a paintfill alone

alright thanks, im going to test it on a dummy putter (a nike ignite 001) and see how it goes. ill post pics when im done.

I have some tips if you want them...

1.) clean and dry putter
2.) heat with a heat gun (quickest), hair dryer takes longer
3.) acetone over the original paint
4.) pick out with a small file or a toothpick
5.) paint area with testors enamel paint (model paint, 5 bucks at toys r us)
6.) dry area lightly with heat gun
7.) using a cotton swap soaked in acetone lighly rub away from the surface

make sure you use a simple fragrant free acetone (nail polish remover)

So, in step 2, is that just too ensure the putter is completely dry or does that aid in removing the original paint? In step 5, what do you use to paint the area? Toothpick?

Studio Stainless is stainless steel. There is no finish to ruin.

no, actually the heat loosens up the paint somewhat

step 5, you can use a brush in terms of the putter being "stainless" steel it can rust, but certainly not from acetone

certainly... make sure you use enamel paint though, acrylic doesnt work as well

its pretty cheap, testors model paint works well
