I am going to demo some irons soon, and just wondering since my index is a 5.3, should I only look at players irons or should I try out some game improvement irons also? I know it all comes down to the test, but I was just wondering that a G1 set will be not good for me or not.

Thanks.

Put it this way:

1. There are people with handicappers over 20 who are successful with players irons. Yours truly, for instance. 2. I forget whether it was last year or the year before that 7 of the top 10 on the LPGA Tour used irons that can best be categorized as "game improvement irons." So there are players with + handicaps who use game improvement irons. You *might* get some S. from your golf buddies if you use irons outside your handicap range. Other than that, get irons that fit what type of game you want to play and that you like. So yes, look at GI irons and Players' Irons. And see what you like better.

The ranger and "semi-pro" at my course is a 1 handicap. He plays Callaway Fusions. Unless you really, really have to work the ball, I don't see why you wouldn't at least hit a few GI irons just to try. But to each his own. Im a 13 and hit players irons in the 7-pw. So go figure. Ever consider a combo set?
