Yeah, it's another post on "the economy" but I'm hoping it puts that part of the discussion to bed:

From here . Looks awfully cyclical to me.

Unfortunately, the economy will be an issue regardless of whether or not its cyclical. The economy affects pretty much every program a president wants to put into effect.

But since you don't want to talk about the economy alone, lets talk about technology innovation - http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/17/us...ewanted=1&_r=1

It's quite clear the differences between the two candidates on this issue. I can only hope the American people place a little wager on its importance instead of finding a President with a 'quick fix' for our other troubles.

That data only looks at who was President.
The real question is, "Who controlled the Congress?" As I understand it, "The President proposes and Congress disposes".
I have never seen any data on economic activity tied to control of the Congress. They, after all, control the purse strings.

http://blog.wolfram.com/2008/10/16/s...dential-party/ I personally don't think there's much to talk about in the way of technology. There's a clear winner in that case, in my opinion.

I'm sorry, but since this pertains to the debate on Weds night, I have to share this with all of you - http://www.npr.org/blogs/politics/20...or_joespl.html

How can McCain defend this position? Can someone please explain this to me?

The same way McCain defended the people making death threats at Obama at his rallies during the debate, by claiming none of his supporters would be negative towards him if Obama would have agreed to his tour of town-hall meetings?

And by stating emphatically that the people who come to his rallies are the most patriotic Americans and that he's proud of them?

My real attempt at McCain defending those statements:

"My friends, Joe the Plumber is a decent, hard-working American, who simply wants to fulfill his dream of owning his own business. But Barack Obama and his liberal cronies don't think that's such a good idea: in their insatiable lust for earmarks, the government has placed such a burden upon Joe the Plumber, he can't even afford to pay his own taxes.

"And now, for no reason other than my making a passing mention of him once, or twice, or indeed, 21 times during my debate with Senator Obama the other night, the media elite are now hellbent on destroying Joe the Plumber's dream, going so far as to acquiring readily available public records. If the media put as much as they have making an example of Joe the Plumber, and added that to the thousands upon thousands of hours of news coverage devoted to William Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, and ACORN over the last nine months, Americans would understand that Senator Obama is a dangerous extremist who pals around with terrorists, and cannot be trusted to be leader of the United States. That is not putting country first, my friends."
