907 had a good idea about making a thread where us juniors could talk about college golf and similar things. i will start off by saying best of luck to everybody pursuing a scholarship in college at any level

I am someone that has a goal of playing collegiate golf. I just turned 17 and have 2 full high school golf seasons left. I am planning to build up my strength and endurance and get myself ready for April(in Michigan). I am seeing a pro who I am going to see through the whole winter and plan to get my swing in shape for the spring. I have the eligibility for Division 1 in my classes and plan to play D1, but have no problem playing in D2. I just want to get a solid education and play golf collegiately. I am now a 10 handicap or so and plan to get everything in order for the spring.

Has anyone signed up for the NCAA Clearing House before your junior year ended? I am still puzzled on when to do this.

Good Luck to everyone who shares the same goal as I have right now.

Yep, I'm trying the same thing.

Here's my plan:

Go to Oregon and work hard all year while playing tournament's, and getting to know the Oregon golf coach. See I can do this because the Oregon golf team practices at my Oregon home course. Also my swing coach in Oregon, went to U of O, and said he can introduce me to the coach. Then impress the coach, and get a scholarship. And then win national's.

Dream big, achieve big. Dream small, achieve small.

Here's what I play:

Clubmaker15,
I hope you reach your goals!! But, in 1983 at Jackson High in Jackson Michigan we all had handicaps of 5 or less on Varsity so I would say you need to work hard on shaving some strokes off your handicap before you graduate!

Good Luck and work on getting your scores down!!!!!

Well I've only been playing seriously for about 7 or 8 months now. I'm a freshman, therefore I have 3 more years of high school golf left. At the end of senior year I want to be around a 2 handicap. I think I should be capable of that. I'm going to shoot for D1A, maybe D1AA. I'll be satisfied with D2 and maybe even D3.

College golf isn't really a major thing here. I won't make it anywhere either. I'll stick to high school competitions and fun play.

I really love GOlf, but it takes the passenger seat to baseball. I'm pretty good at this point, without playing regularly. The best 18 hole score where I counted was a 14 over, but I've had many days where I felt better than that but I didn't count. (I don't count a lot) I feel I am much better at baseball, and have much more of a chance. Unfortunately at my school Golf is in the spring instead of fall so golf loses out to baseball.

I'm a freshman, BTW.

I'm a sophomore now, 2 golf seasons left, i want to get down to scratch by then and get a scholarship hopefully to a d1 school.

Im just now starting to take golf serious since quitting the basketball team this year. This will be my first year on the golf team and I plan on making the most of it. Hopefully I play well enough that I get a scholarship to a some D2 school here in Georgia. If not I plan on trying to walk on at whatever school I attend. Wish me luck and good luck to everyone else!

one of my goals to reach before christmas break. just like 907 said, set your goals high and acheive great things. i aim to get to scratch by christmas break. it will be hard but its a good challenge for me cuz i have been playing well and the next time my handicap gets updated it should be around a 3 which is a 1 stroke improvement over the course of 3 or 4 weeks

Does it get cold in the winter in Tennessee ? Do you play on simulator, they have one by us my team frequents, one of the kid's aunts own it.

ya it gets down to about low 30's on average. a nice day in december is mid 40's. i dont play on a simulator, i rough it with: a carry bag, long socks, thick slacks(sometimes with rain pants over them cuz that keeps me extra warm), 3 layers on top, and some sort of beanie. winter is usually slow and dreary, damp and dark, but when u shoot a good score on a cold and dark day, it feels better than anything

Playing collegiate golf would be nice, but I don't think I'm cut out for it. Plus the schools I'm applying too are all D1 and pretty damn good(like Wake Forest).

I'm more than happy to settle for playing in the golf club, all for fun yet still pretty competitive.

Best of luck Michigan winters can make it hard. If your with a good pro I'm sure you'll do fine.

You sound like a player on my team, hes like a 4 handicap and doesn't want to play. As a 8, as long as your not a senior, it's very possible to get down to college scores.

I'm going to be a senior (and likely the team captain) this year. As my handicap indicates, I really don't have a chance of making a college golf team, especially where I'm applying to college (mostly Ivy league schools, which are solid D1 programs). I'll take intellectual pursuits over golf any day. (Obviously, I'd rather play golf than study, but a good school off the team is far better in the future than a bad school on the team. Heck - I don't want to jinx myself here - I'm applying early to a school with a world-famous golf course, so college golf without a team might not be bad at all...)

i am in the 8th grade i play about 70-80 rounds a year and am currently a 7 handicap. my high school golf team is very good the best handicap on the team is a +3.5 so i hope to get down to a 1 or 2 so i can play varsity freshman year and hopefully play d1 college golf.
