Had the pleasure of playing Sankaty Head Golf Club yesterday and I must say I was very impressed. I shot 99... course plays 6700 yards with 12-13 holes dead into the wind or coming HARD off the left. We saw 30MPH all day and it was some of the hardest golf I have ever played. It really kicked my ass.

This course is an exclusive private club on Nantucket and is an adventure getting to. I read about this club in a small segment in golf digest about great one day golf adventures. They open the club to the public from the 3rd weekend in October until closing (not sure the exact date). 135 green fees and the total day trip comes out to around 180 for the ferry and green fees.

Excellent lay out, excellent conditions and overall a very friendly staff. It's just beautiful out there.

I have had the opportunity to play Sankaty Head several times during the summer when weather conditions are great. I've long wanted to play in the autumn/winter when authentic Irish links conditions exist. Hope this is the year to do it and rekindle memories o f the trip to Ireland I took with my dad back in 1989 when we played Old Dublin, Portmar nock, Rosses Point, Lahinch, Tralee, Ballybunion and Killarney.

Make that Royal Dublin, not Old Dublin. I had Old Head on my mind.  We had a great caddie at Royal Dublin, Christie Boyd was his name.  A quintessential Irish caddie, in his 70's I recall at the time he'd been looping at Royal Dublin since his teens.
