I've been playing about 18 months and the bug has bitten. Here is my question, I live in northern NJ and still want to get some golf in December/ January/ February time. How far south do I need to go to be able to get the odd round in when its not too cold , i.e. above freezing and no snow etc. I don't mind driving 3 or 4 hours, which would put me in Maryland . Is there any place that any can recommend. I'm not looking to spend $100 on a round, I'm used to play the local county courses here in Morris County.

Many thanks in advance.

I Play all winter long in the Delaware, So Jersey, SE Penn area. We ususally get a few decent days each month so not to bad.

One of our local courses had a winter league last winter ( 4 different days) 2 of the days were quite brisk but the other 2 were not bad.

Frozen fairways give you a few extra yards

If you are willing to drive 3 hours you should be able to find plenty of good golf during the Winter months. Many courses between Southern Jersey to Maryland are open throughout the Wineter on days when there is no Snow and temps are above freezing. Northern Jersey is another story. Emerson Golf Club in Bergen county is the only course I know that will be open any day that gets above 45 degrees if there is no snow on the ground. I have played Emerson over the years in December and January. It is not a great course, but it is okay. You would be surprised how crowded it gets in the Winter. If the weather report calls for a warm day, you'll need to make a tee time in advance and be prepared for a long day if there is a frost delay.
