I want to know just why there are the "divots" and undercuts in PING irons. See the pictures to see what I'm talking about. Make sure you click on the image so you can clearly see what I am talking about.

If I'm not mistaken Ping uses these so they can bend the irons to any color in their code, from any color. (color=lie angle)

I always thought that it was some sort of aerodynamic engineering design, kind of like the old Hogan speed slot woods... but it probably is for lie adjustment

Are you talking about the notch in the hosel? If so...

From release documents for my i3 blades which, IIRC, were the first to feature the new hosel design ->
The Notched Hosel, which is not visible at address, enables Ping to control the connection of the hosel to the clubhead. The result is an optically pleasing, smooth transition between the hosel and clubhead that can be precisely calibrated for loft and lie. The Flat Top Hosel increases the cross-sectional area of the shaft that is in contact with the hosel where the shaft enters the clubhead. This design reduces shaft stress for improved feel.
