I concur, it depends on your definition of a mishit, i mean if you catch one waaaay on the toe, i dont think any club is gonna help you at all...

Oddly enough, i kinda enjoy after a bad shot, because my clubs dont cover up my misses, it makes me want to do alot better and practice so i dont, well embarress myself when im out there. I get enough stick from the groups i get with for being 16, and theres nothing better then getting up there after a, "oh those clubs are way to hard to hit for you" and shooting a great round with em.

thats me atleast.

BIG kudos for that!

I was reading alot of the people answers and it seems that most all of them played or practiced with blades prior to moving to a GI club. To me it seems to be benificial to go through your paces with the blades and learn how to hit the sweetspot and execute shots and then become deadly when you play a GI club with the swing developed by playing a blade. But if it was the other way around I don't think it would be as pleasant because you would see just how good your swing is and you would get terrible results on shots that would normally be descent with GI clubs and I think that is what has created the stigma with blades.

Wait, you miss 20 yards on mishits with blades?

Hmmm, i'd say it depends how bad your misses are.

Perhaps when you miss, you only miss by 1/4 inch. Some of us miss by 3/4 of an inch, and yes I do lose 20 yards off of shots struck like that on a blade. I practice with blades all the time on the range. However I take advantage of the extra forgiveness of the MX-200 irons on the course. If you're only argument for using a blade is "because it makes you practice and keep your swing in check" , then why don't you practice with blades, and then play with something more forgiving on the course. Sounds like a perfect match for me.

Heres why..

If i can get around with blades at even par. Thats MY swing. There isnt really forgivness there to a mad amount. It doesnt let you get away with the shots and i like that. Alot. Because if i can do it with blades, then i know i am playing pretty good golf, my Superhuge GI irons arent doing part of the game for me.

Thats me.

Plus, after playing blades, anything thats bigger than an MP60 or so looks pretty shovel esque to me..:/

I understand the ego argument, and if you enjoy the extra challenge to shoot lower scores, that's great i'm glad you're happy.

When I look down at my 3 or 4 iron and see the cavity in the back I don't feel less of a man/golfer, instead I feel more confident over the shot knowing i've got some forgiveness to count on.

With only 25-30% of PGA tour players playing blades.....

If the majority of tour pro's are playing cavity back irons I can't see any golfer playing blades for any other reason than ego.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
