Titleistman, what degree of wedges and what bounce did you choose?

I got the 58* and 52* SMs. I also got 8 bounce on both hope it works out. The reason i didnt get a 60* is because I got a grind on mine so i can open it wayyy up if i want/need to.

I got the standard Dynamic Gold shafts... I like them a lot, personally I can't tell a lot of difference from my previous Vokeys other than the grooves being newer and shredding the cover of my ProV1x's a lot more... My old Vokeys had been in the bag for quite a while... I hit more practice balls with my wedges than any other clubs and was ready for new ones... And the marketing that Titleist does didn't hurt my decision

I also have the 54* with 11* of bounce i think? I got it in the black Ni finish with the stock DG shaft. I honestly can't really tell a difference between the new and old Vokey SM besides the newer/sharper grooves.

Like you guys said there probably won't be much difference but i got a SM 52*(my old one was a 200 series). I also got an awesome grind on the 58* so i can hit flop shots and the like. IMHO Vokeys are by far the best wedges EVER!!

I would like to try a Vokey SM and will drop my 60° CG14 for it.

Couple questions:
Is it worth the extra $$$ to go for the 09 version?

What bounce would be right, if I want to use it for close approaches from the firm fairway, say with a 50° Loft?

IMO you should use a medium to high bounce if you are using it from the fairway. If you are not using it from the fairway, then a lower bounce would be acceptable. I am getting a new grind on my vokey before the start of the new season, (58*) so i can open it up a little bit more. The spin milled wedges actually need their grooves sharpened/ restored more often than the regular, justt because t it so sharp to begin with.

From what I read and my personal experience this is actually exactly backwards. If you are coming from a tight lie (fairway) less bounce is better, if from the rough/sand then more bounce is better. The more fluffy the lie the more bounce generally helps. Bill Vokey said in one interview that bounce is the golfer's friend. He gave the impression that for higher handicappers more bounce was almost always better.

I guess I'm saying that more bounce than you "need" from the fairway is something you can deal with, but having less bounce than required from the rough makes for a really difficult shot that may end up with the wedge wanting to almost slide under the ball... I had a 60* LW with 8* bounce that really was harder to hit from the rough; replaced that with a 56/14* and things are much easier from the same types of lies.

I am considering the Spin Milled 58-4.

Mizzy doesn't make a low bounce 58, and I think that 58° is a more useful loft-- for me, anyway--than 60. I don't like bending, because it changes the playing characteristics designed into the sole.

The Cleveland 691 58° was one of my favorite wedges ever, but it's long out of production and the grooves on my old one are totally worn. Plus it had a steel shaft.

When the snow finally melts, I'll try to find an opportunity to hit the Vokey. It's pretty tough to find a demo in graphite, however, and I don't play steel anymore.
