I stocked up on end of year "specials" on the old ProVs, so I will be fighting the temptation to spend any money on the new ones for fear that I might like them. I really doubt I will be able to tell the difference, and will continue to tell myself that.

On a different subject, why the negative attitudes (some) toward Titleist?

909D3 (Voodoo, stiff)
King Cobra Comp 5w (YS 5.1 Stiff)
AP1 4,5; AP2 6-P; Vokey 252 08, SM56 14, SM60 08 (Nippon N.S. Pro 950GH Regular)
Newport 2 Mid Slant

Getting slightly off topic, has anybody done any testing of the pro-v(old or new) and Callaway HX Tour or IX tour? I have always had a preference for Callaway, but with all the marketing for Titleist, am I missing out? I feel like I did in 2000 when I almost caved and started buying tech stocks from the peer pressure. I certainly like to hear if anybody can say one is longer than the other. And of course, I know it depends on your swing. I swing above 105 on the driver so I think the premium balls are good for me, and I like the spin around the greens. Any opinions would be welcome.

Driver Cleveland 460 Launcher 9.5*
Hybrids Cobra Baffler 2R, 3R, 4R
Irons Mizuno MX-23
Wedges Vokey 248.06, SM54.14 and SM60.04

I played with a Bridgestone Ball rep the other day, he said that most of the pros have disliked the new Pro V since they had to make changed from the callaway lawsuit. Im not sure if he was talking about this one of the model before this though.

I'm not even going to try them. I've found my ball for '09, the Bridgestone e5+. I'm happy if anyone likes and wants to play the new Pro V1. I'm just not even considering it. But in the words of the old soul song, "it's your thing, do whatcha wanna do". How's that for dimplomacy?

In the actual press release that I posted it says the following:

No big deal for us that have someone at a golf retail store and can walk out with any 45.00 ball in the store which is all from bridgestone and callaway to titleist for 27 dollars however I have grown accustomed to Bridgestone B330 and unless the new ball holds up as well as these guy's do I'm not going back. Titleist recovering addict , been clean since 2007!

No I hav'nt checked the new pro v's but he imop I liked the tour i alot better than the 56 or the hx tour, the hx models we're to clonky off the putter for me, however the tour i was too spinny, I'd say go with the prov x ( I don't know about the new model though) or the bridgestone ball you'll also be very surprised with the srixon ball which I'm going to also put in play this year.

The Bridgestone rep doesn't know what he's talking about. The "changes" the patents - which, again, were ruled invalid by the USPTO - covered were related to the manufacturing. Not the design.

I personally havent noticed any difference in new and old high performance balls in the past few years, especially Pro V1s. For me and many others, the all spin the same, which can sometimes be too much.

couldnt disagree more, much more yardage, much less driver spin, and these balls with drop and stop from 20 yards because of the spin. A callaway or titleist from 8-10 years ago would run out.

they wouldnt run off the green if you made good clean contact with the ball. i never had a problem with them not stopping at least.

Or it could be he was, in his former job, a car salesman. No, that couldn't be it.

Fairways and Greens.

    • Day 22: Hit balls with 7-iron using mevo+ to track dispersion. Was out for a long time after work; 86 balls but the first 50+ were 50% swings focusing on top of backswing feel and then just hitting the ball as a psychic reward. Finished with 20 balls close to full speed. Pretty happy with dispersion and also no horrendous misses. I’m chunking my priority piece out into two separate feels, first and more important is the position/balance at top of backswing which is what I was working on. Once I have that engrained I’ll move to transition part.
    • FWIW I never really had issues with the previous generation of Snells. But… I'm not sure I played them a ton, either.
    • I know Dean Snell designed the original Pro V along with a couple of other brands tour balls.  How exactly does the Snell ball have problems.  Did he change something in the design or is a manufacturing error since he cannot afford the unlimited R&D budgets of the big manufacturers to iron out flaws
    • I've played the Tour in both white and yellow.  They play well and seem to hold up pretty good even when running into trees or cart paths.  Right now, I've been trying them against the Bridgestone Tour B RX ball and I really like both.  The Snell 3.0 looks to be a great update to the issues Snell was running into with the previous generation.
