im thinking about mixing it up and attempting to play from diff teeboxs... i obviously dont have the distance to play from the tips but when the course is empty(around this time of year) ill give it a shot... just go full out on my 1st and 2nd shot an see if i can keep it under control... then ill drag my girl out for a round an play from the forward tees... see if i can get to scratch from the fronts... hahaha

I voted for the midback tee box. On the regular courses that I play that is pretty standard. Usually it is all about the yardage. If I feel like a challenge I will play from the back tees. Most of the time if in a group, majority rules. I don't like playing different tees than what everyone else is.

Same here.

I like to play the tips on any course I am playing. But in reality, I play where the group plays.. or rather...where the money is.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

I play from the middle teeboxes, which are usually the whites. If I ever got to the point where I was always making par or birdie, I would probably move back, but for right now the whites are challenging enough.
I wouldnt feel right moving foreward. I usually make bogey or double bogey and IMO for where my game is at right now, the whites are the tees I should be playing from.

I play from the yardage that is comfortable for me, that is typically the tips. If another group is playing forward, then our tee shots should match equally. I don't want to have to wait for 3-4 other players to hit their 2nd shot, then I walk 20-30 yards ahead to hit mine.

I marked mid-back because that is usually in the right yardage range for me. On my home course we only have 3 boxes, so there I take the middle most of the time. I can play the back tees just fine, but at my handicap most of my tournaments are from the white tees, so I try to maintain a legitimate handicap by playing from there most of the time. I like a course to be in 6200 to 6500 yard range, but 7000 is doable as long as I'm playing here at more than 5000' elevation.

On most courses I play whatever box is right in front of the tips. But it depends on the course I ussually try to stay in between 62-6700 yards. So I may move up or back depending how long the course is.

Im also a big advocate of playing where your partners are though. I have the distance to play the tips on almost any course, but Im also not so good to think im above moving up if my partners are playing from there. Just seems like a rude move to play from the back if your buddies wanna play from the white.

I voted and posted here earlier and got to thinking about this one.

I haven't played here YET but I have seen part of the course and from the tips or Purgatory tees this one stretches out to 7700 yds. I think here I'd play more toward the mid front tees. most of it's out of my reach. LOL

I usually try and play to the tee box that is with in my yardage which is about 6600 yards (5 Iron Distance (185) x 36).

200 x 36= 7200

I usually mix it up. If Im playin with somebody new Ill play whatever they are playing but if Im by myself Ill play the back tees.

Doesn't matter what color they are, I'm looking for a yardage that's challenging but within my skill level. That's usually in the 6700 yd range or so, but the course itself will dictate. Obviously the more tee boxes a course has, the more likely people will be able to find one that suits their game.

Couldn't agree more! I pick a set of tees by yardage as every course is different. My home course has 3 sets and is only 6,000 from the back tees where I play, but that doesn't mean I'm going to play the back tees at every course I go to.

I usually play from whatever the regulation tee is. Blue tees for most courses. Im long enough to where a 420+ yd par 4 isnt really a problem, but its rare to find one that long from the blues. There may be even more back tees on alot of courses but i like to play the yardage the course was designed around. I figure that is the blue most of the time.

I too play based on yardage, my home course is only 6100 from the back tee. I usually play between 6200 and 6700 yards, anything past 6700 and it takes the variety out of the game, I'm hitting driver, 3 wood on every hole. If I'm playing a course for the first time and they have 6200 and 6700, I will player the shorter one the first time, longer one the second time and then determine which one I like to play. Sometimes the shorter distance can take the variety out of the game also.

I play whatever is fitting at the time and fitting to the course length. Typically mids though. At my home course (which is quite short) I will be playing from the Blues (back tees) to change it up and get better prepared for some of the longer courses that I play.

Yardage and slope rating influence my decision. My club I play the tips, my league I play the middle.

ALLLLL the way back baby! Any course under 7200 yards is not too long for me, but over that it starts getting rough. I have played some of the longest, toughest courses in the US and they were just unrelenting! You know it's tough when even the best in the world don't play it all the way back...

In my golf league, we have a by-law that states that the league will play from the tees that are closest to 6,300 yards.

That being said, I will play from the tips when ever I'm not playing in the league.

I could play from the senior tees, i am 62. the group i play with has to play blue tees. If my short game is on I can be competive, I will usually I will play from the middle (whites)

    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
