Ok guys, i need your help because im about to buy a hybrid, and i have not had the oppurtunity to hit these babies outside yet because of the weather. I currently have a 21* 3 iron, and a 15.5* 909 f2 3 wood. I need a hybrid that will fit the gap properly. I am looking at a 17* and 19*. I am afraid that the 17* will be too close distance wise to the 3 wood, while the 19* would be too close to the 21* 3 iron. I need you help...yes i may seem like i am being a bit too anal about the loft difference of only 2*, but this is a big deal to me.
What do you guys think?

You can go with both but if I were in your siutation I would go with 19*. The loft might be closer to 21* but because of the longer shaft length of the hybrids, it will fill in the gap nicely. Also, 19* would be easier for you to hit off the deck compared to 17* if you are not a consistent hitter. I think 1* roughly equals to 3 yard difference so it shouldn't bug you.

I agree with hypergolf, in terms of distance a 19˚ hybrid will play as far as a 17 or 18˚ iron would. The longer shaft is also graphite which I find makes the ball go further than a steel shafted iron. So whilst the differences between the lofts won't be uniform 3.5˚ and 2˚, I think you'll find the gaps between the distances will be uniform. I probably made that more complicated than it is, suffice to say I don't believe you can directly compare the lofts of hybrids and irons merely by the number on the bottom of the club. I've always found a 21˚ hybrid will hit the ball further than a 21˚ iron.

I totally agree, go for the 19

another agreement here... the 19* should work well... I have the 17*, 19*, and 21* and change them out according to the course... I think the 19* is a little more versatile

What do you guys think?

Same thing I always think: hit a few and pick the best one.

You can't guess by looking at specs how a club will perform for you.

I use a 19 degree 909H and honestly i do have some overlap issues with my 21 degree 585H. Not too much, but enough to think to myself that I should be using a 17 sometimes. If you plan on keeping the 3iron in your bag it probably wont be an issue, though.

iacas, why did you go witht the 17*? I see that your fw wood is 15*, how big is your distance gap between those?

What irons are you looking to get? If they are blades or a player's cavity, there will be a larger gap between the 3i and 19* than if your irons are GI or SGI.

Personally, I would rather have a 19* over a 17* just because the 19* would get used more when I play.

because they're workable, have great looks even at adress, and feel like buttah!

Still looking for some thoughts on what degree i should get...right now im leaning towards the 19*...i like the idea of getting the ball higher up in the air, and having it land softer. I would probly hit the 19 around 210, and this would be plenty of distance.

C'mon now people...

http://thesandtrap.com/clubs/titleis..._hybrid_review 3W is about 245. 909H is about 230. 3I picks up from there (~215). It's 17 degrees but since it's got a shorter shaft it plays about like a 5W. Less loft but a longer shaft so it plays like a 2I, too. Fits in the gap pretty well.
