I run the scoring for my company golf league. My partner just took over as president so we have full authority to put whatever rules we want in place this season.

Our scoring the past few years has never been ideal. We've used a few different formats that all basically had 2 points per hole and 4 points per match (low combined net) available for a total of 22.

We have 16 two-man teams, playing 15 weeks. You play each team once, and then there is an 18-hole finale on the 16th week.

I'm looking for suggestions on ways to score the league. If you've played in a league, how did your league score, and what did you like and what didn't you like about it?

In my nine hole league we play two man best ball with handicaps, low score netting a point per hole with one point awarded to the team winning the match and a half available for the tie. The last two or three nights of the league are played as "position nights," with the number one team playing the two, the third playing the fourth, and so on. The teams then have the chance to stay in their position, or move up one, depending on how they do. If any of this is unclear I'll be happy to clarify.

In our format, the low handicap on one team plays the low handicap on the other team, and the two higher handicap players play each other. There are 10 points available in each individual match (total of 20). Low net on each hole = 1 point, halve = 1/2 each. 1 point available for net total. Limit on strokes per hole given is 2. Add up the individual match scores for the team scores.

Nothing about it I dislike, just have to keep up to date with handicaps.

    • Day 22 (23 May 24) / played the weekly nine-hole semi-scramble with the guys.  Solid play - primary focus was on making solid contact with the irons.
    • Day 41: Pitching/chipping into the net. A few full swings with driver hitting Almost Golf balls.
    • Day 568, May 23, 2024 Loooooooong day today. Got some shadow work done with an umbrella.
    • Day 148: 5/23/24 Hit balls on the range measuring ball speed for each club. Recently watched a fitting video where the fitter said he targeted 5 mph ball speed increase for each club.  Mine weren’t quite there. 4 and 5 mph were pretty similar except for 1 ball. Big jump for hybrid, bigger jump for 4-hybrid, and huge change for driver. Swung for the fences with driver and hit them all pretty straight at the end of my session. Several at 111 mph, which is above my normal speed. Finished with chipping release 1 with several clubs.  Good session!
    • Birdied 15 at my home course today and made a birdie the other day at a course I don’t usually play. Will update the spreadsheet once I’m home on my computer.
