Anybody got any tips or know of something I can read to stop this? Sometimes I get stuck on the downswing and obviously it's very tricky to use your hands to get everything squared up. I know from watching my swing on video that the clubhead is too far inside on the downswing, I'm hoping to get the shaft more down the line when the club is parallel to the ground, instead of the butt of the club pointing right like it is now.

Sounds like your standing too close to the ball shortstop ,slow your takeaway down and try and hit draw ,You should be able to work it out for yourself from there

agree, are you standing too close? or, this happened to me once, instead of clearing left hip, I turn my right hip in....that happened because my right foot is off the ground too soon. Try keep you foot down and turn your left hip out of the way.

I know that I used to get stuck until I saw a video of my backswing. It was because I was initially taking the club way too far inside on the backswing. Once I bent over at the hips a bit more and took the club back on plane more, I haven't had that problem and have been striking the ball a lot better.

Club on plane and perhaps working some on clearing your hips better for the club to pass are my first thoughts.

I suppose you don't get literally stuck like Charles Barkley.

LOL, if I swung a club like that I wouldn't golf, let alone let people experience my golf anguish in their living rooms.

I'm pretty sure my takeaway is good, I worked hard on that last year and from looking at my swing videos it seems to be pretty close. I will try standing further away from the ball. I was thinking this the other day actually. I've only played 9 holes this year(waiting for weather to get better) and haven't been to the range yet(local course doesn't have one). Once I can get to the range I will experiment with this. I just don't feel comfortable making swing changes mid-round, just gotta work with what ya got.

I have been struggling with this for a long time, and had a recent breakthrough when I realized I had tension in my shoulders/rotator cuff. When I relaxed my shoulders it freed my swing up. I got more power, and my body just cleared out of the way naturally.

What he said. Mostly you get stuck because of what you do on the backswing. Shoulder turn stops, arms keep going, you're stuck.

    • Day 24: did a stack session. Worked a bit on downswing feels during breaks.
    • Day 444 - 2025-12-18 Light day of hotel room work. GEARS Summit v2.0 today. Good day.
    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
