Does anyone wear a back brace when golfing? I have been practicing more this year and have been having some lowerback pain after I spend time on the range, I have had back pain in the past and it is nothing new. I need to be better at stretching and strenthening my back and I am working on that but I wonder if wearing a back brace while playing would help give me some support.

quite possibly yes, have you tried that icy hot stuff shaquille oneil advertises for back pain? I used it for my knees and it gets rid of the pain right away, the only problem is i dont think it actually deals with it just does a great job of masking it.

Go to your doctor or physio and ask him/her what they recommend for a back brace that will give you full range of motion still while golfing. Good luck.

Mark, I too have a back problem. It limits my playing and practice time when it acts up. I've tried back braces and haven't had very good success with them. Your mileage may vary, of course.

THIS helps me tremendously. The warmth keeps my lower back "loose" and prevents it from tightening up........until I get home, lol. It is true that it is a band-aid and does simply mask the pain and prevent tightness. But it does allow me to play at times when otherwise I'd be at home.

If you need a back brace you need to take it easy! After your back feels better have someone check to see if your swing could be causing the back pain.

You are right that the proper exercise of careful stretching before and after you play or practice will help stretch and strengthen your back. Take it easy until your back feels better or you might make it worse.

Try Pilates, and walking to help your back feel better, take good care.

I have big time back problems too. Hell, that's what knocked me off tour. I recently started playing again and started noticing some back problems. If you are having lower back pain there is a good chance that you have something in your swing that is pulling your spine towards the ball. A lot of times this is your right knee going towards the ball rather than the target through impact. Any curvature in the spine is dangerous for guys like us so I would recommend video taping your swing and possibly going through a really difficult but beneficial swing change.
