The media always wants someone to challenge Tiger, and now the new media darling is Rory McIlroy. I have only seen him a couple of times and yes what a talent at 19 but didn't the media pump up Sergio when he was 19 contending for a major?

Sergio is a great player but hasn't won a major, which he could in the next couple of years. So being the next Sergio wouldn't be bad.

I hope Rory enjoys himself and doesn't lose perspective with all the attention and everyone telling him how great he is.

Not bagging on either player, but just would like to see Rory grow and mature as a player.

My wife also thinks he needs a hair cut.

Yeah if I remember hearing right, Sergio was the next prodigy or close to it.

Rory seems to be on another level though. Kid seems legit.

LOL at your wife's comment.

But at the same time, I think in the next 3-4 years we are gonna see some good quality golfers start throwing their names out there as quality competitors. Not Tiger killers, but top 10 quality (as time progresses). There is some serious talent in the collegiate ranks!

What country is Rory from? I couldn't recognize the flag symbol they had up on the scoreboard. Ireland?

Yeah, he's Irish.

Also, I think he's legit. From the interviews I've seen and read, he seems to have a good head on his shoulders. Hopefully he'll stay grounded and contend for some majors.

Well Rory could introduce a new aspect to the game, it would be interesting to see him in a final day shoot out with say Tiger, sort of young freewheeling talent against the 'driven' experienced tourny player that is Tiger.

Perhaps it would herald a changing of the guard.

Fishinjdb is correct Rory is a Brit from N Ireland.

I dont think it is fair on young talented players of any sport to be compared to past or current champions. They are players in their own right and will make their own way.Having said that Rory will not be the next Sergio as there is a big differance in their games that being that Rory can Putt!

Rory has got all it takes to be one of the best. He reminds me more of Tiger than any other of the young guns on the course. He's very competent on most aspects, from the drive to the chips and especially putts. From what I've seen, he's a great putter.

I agree that the media has put Rory on a pedestal and are definitely hyping him, but I think for good reason. He has shown poise and great ability. I think when Garcia was 19 he seemed a little more boyish than Rory. I have watched most of Rory's rounds since he started playing the PGA this year and he looks much more mature than Garcia did when he came out. However, I will say that after seeing his final round and watching him struggle in the Bermuda rough, that he clearly has some learning to do. I am going out on a limb and saying that Rory will win a major before Garcia does.

He'll be better than the "next Sergio". I don't think he'll fail to live up to his early potential as Sergio did.

Did you hear the NBC guys talking about how Rory shot even par at Doral for 36 holes when he was 9!!? He won the under 10 bracket by 5 shots.

I like Rory already. I like him loads ahead of Sergio.

The young man seems like a very nice and respectful. He plays at a level that is unreal. I hope he continues with this and doesn't let some "guru" screw up his swing. He putts bravely and freely and swings with such confidence. I hope that never changes.

I hope he'll pick the right type of friends on tour and stay grounded to his desires to suceed and reach golf's highest level.

I hope for his sake that he can win a major early on so he doesn't have to wade through the negative garbage the media will hinder him with about not winning one.

He seemed to handle the frustrations of playing in front off Americas loud and sometimes highly obnoxious galleries with the "go-in-the-hole" idiots at full frenzy. He created a little noise of his own and went with it.

My wife was laughing at my hair the other day....I was a week overdue for a cut.....er...maybe more than a week. I just put a hat on and told her I was doing the Rory-thing. She finally understood when she saw some of the Doral coverage this weekend. She's a fashion diva and immediately jumped on his hair. I'm like....look here gal....this kid just got on a 603 yd hole in two...into a breeze....in tournament pressure....and just a shot or two off the lead......in a big event......with Tiger playing......and you wanna bust on his hair.....gimmeabreak!!!

I'm very impressed with this young phenom from Ireland. I wish him the absolute best.

While the media is hyping him a little too much, I think he is a real deal and will be better than Sergio. I don't think he will win any major this season, but he will be a contender in majors soon in my opinion.

i agree. once he has six or ten more big tournaments under his belt, i think he'll really come into it and start leading the pack. i'm fairly certain he'll have captured a major within two years.

I like this Rory kid as much as the next guy, but I think the media always likes to get a little ahead of themselves. This is what happens when someone young wins a tournament. Look at A.K. He wins a couple tourneys and the media jumps all over him. I'm a huge AK fan and I think when his shoulder fully heals (hopefully by the Masters)he'll be right back to Ryder Cup form.

The next tournament I want you all to pay attention to who's getting all the air time. Obviously Tiger is #1, but you'll see who the media is trying to push. I barely saw AK and the media pushed him hard in the offseason.

But as for Rory being the next Sergio? Hype, yes. Victories? Lets all hope not. Haha. I'd hate to see this kid have letdown after letdown.

I love the boy wonder that is Rory McIlroy. He has the sweetest swing I've ever seen at that age, yes even better than Tiger, and I hope that he can get past all the praise and elevate his game to the level of the all-time greats. He has a solid head on his shoulders, and his putting is unbelievable. He will win a major very soon.

Thats not hard to do. Sergio's an under achiever, but maybe that'll change. So if i was McIlroy id much rather be thought of the next rediculous "media comparison". Right now it looks like he's got game, but he's 19. Good luck to him though, some of the shots he hit were pretty impressive.

Is Rory the next Sergio Garcia?

I hope not.

I'm down to a 10 handicap. At this rate, I'll get to scratch at 90 years old!

I love McIlroy. He will be number 1 in the world some day. He will win on tour this year. Which will make him one of the youngest winners ever on tour.

    • Got told off yesterday for doing full swings and full speed swings so went to the range this lunchtime and did some slow speed stuff and freezers. A few videos from my session.    First few are DTL then some FO This one is of me looking at the club on the way back. I think I get my arms lifting all the way back, not that you’d know because YouTube keeps glitching on me.    Second one is two slow backswings. This glitches the first one but the glitch looks like a pretty good position so I’ll live. Second one works. Then another swing back and hit. When I’m not watching or really focusing on it it seems that my upper arm doesn’t lift at first, rather stays roughly where it is and I add the lift at the end so the club comes a bit more inside. I think that’s what I’m going to focus on. This one glitches a bit too but it’s really just pausing. This shows the club coming a bit more inside but not as laid off at the top Then a couple of face on ones And lastly one smoothie and one freezer at normal speed  Quite happy with how this went. I can see my arms are better when I take it slower. Also while I’m still pitching my arms out it doesn’t seem to be as extreme as yesterday. Light at the end of the tunnel 🙂
    • Pablo, you can’t get much safer than cash and a public meetup spot. Don’t know what happened to you there.  Always check their profile to make sure they have either sold stuff, have other things for sale and have a profile that shows they don’t join FB the day before.  Be wary if the price is too low, but those are usually the people who joined 2 days ago and have nothing in their profile .  Craigslist is the place full of scumbags usually.
