The last episode that I was able to watch had him swinging by NIKE Golf to get fitted for some sticks.

Do you have any idea what his specs were and what clubs he went with???

I'm not sure, but it looked like he was using the Slingshot irons before.

His old clubs were slingshots (not the current model). The fitting center was Nike so I imagine they set him up with slingshots again or the VR full cavity.

Just wondering as to how upright, long, stiff etc.

I wonder if Barkley had been playing Nike clubs before this show.

Nike's got product placements all over this show. Everywhere you look, you see the swoosh. Does Haney have a deal with Nike these days too?

yeah i looked at his bag during the show and ALL the clubs he was hitting had the swoosh all over it. Every head cover was bright yellow with a black swoosh...

Charles is 6'4" so I imagine he has some extension as far as length. That generally means they are more upright as well (three up is my guess). His hands are huge so that can only mean oversize grips. It's hard to guage his swing speed but I'm going to guess he's got some standard stiff shaft. I feel certain they would put him in the full cavity VR.

No way....I thought Charles was way....way....way over 6'4".

Charles has always been a 'Nike guy', even back to his Philly days early on. I remember seeing him play several years ago and he wore Nike gear, and played with Nike clubs. I think even after he stopped playing he still does commercials and has some sort of deal with them. Either that, or he just really likes their stuff, or he is sort of paying them back for all the money he got when he was a player.

I have always seen Haney with Nike stuff on so I would assume he has a Nike deal.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

Coming out of college he was always listed as 6'8" because he was a power forward. When he gets to the pros they find out he's only 6'4"1/2 or something like that. Yeah, he's not as tall as you would think.

Wow.....now I'm really more interested in his specs....we are pretty close in height.

Yeah, his height, or lack thereof, is what makes his NBA career so incredible in my eyes. A 6'4" post player that averaged around 20 and 10 for his career against guys that were at least 6" taller than him. Truly an amazing competitor!

I'm pretty sure he is taller than 6'4", here's his mugshot from an earlier incident. Although searching the web, it's impossible to find something definite. Maybe need to find Charles and measure him myself.

In college, he was measured by the Engineering Department at Auburn... which probably explains why they were wrong

Cheers, Allan

Interesting, he's 6'8" from the side mugshot but only 6'7" from the front. Does he get taller or shorter when he has his back to you?

Side note: Per my Pro, for every 1/2 inch longer the club the lie goes up one degree. So, if I had standard lie clubs but added one inch, it would push the lie to 1 deg up. If he's at a 2 or 3 inch longer shaft he may not need the upright lie. Just a thought. Maybe some of the more experienced clubmakers/fitters can chime in on this.

You might be right about Barkley, I just found it funny that he was all decked out in all Nike gear for the show.

And with Haney, I think he might have signed on with Nike or something once he started coaching Tiger and got famous for that. I know I've seen pictures of him wearing a Cleveland hat, so that's really all I can come up with as far as him getting on board with Nike.

I stood beside him on an elevator once, and although I'm 6'1" he was a LOT taller than I, much more than the 6'4" often quoted. Many of the NBA players measure taller or shorter than their real height - it's part of their gamesmanship. Some guys often measure taller to make their opponents feel more intimidated, and some measure shorter to show up their opponent ("Hey, how come you're getting outrebounded by the shorter guy?").

And yes, Sir Charles has always been a Nike guy - recall his quote that "he had two million reasons not to wear Reebok" when Reebok landed the clothing rights for the USOC for the '92 Olympics. Charles and MJ were on the Dream Team and caused a big controversy for their initial refusal to wear anything without a swoosh.

You see this all the time. Last year Beasley was listed at like 6-10 for Kansas State and then got to the pro workouts and was listed at 6-6 lol.

weren't you around during the days of philly and the suns???

Nike re-released the CB line of shoes a few years back. i'm a sneaker head.... so i've always paid attention to ball shoes..... i'm not sure if it's the same b/c Charles got custom fitted for his new clubs last week, but from personal experience with celebrity endorsements... i know all Jason Kidd had to do was go into the Nike book, write down what he wanted, and they were shipped to him. Jason got his P.A. a set of slingshots to start his golf obsession. and now all me and joe talk about is getting out to play... must be nice to be them huh?

I know Barkley was always a Nike guy from his basketball playing days, I just didn't know if he carried that over to golf and played Nike clubs. I just found it funny how on the show they trotted him out with a Nike bag, clearly made the Nike clubs visible and him and Haney both decked out in Nike gear. Gotta love product placement.

    • I will think about it but I would have to have my sister record it and as I recently put a hole into the outside shed window with a golf shot she might not be overkeen,,,lol
    • Nah. 🙂 I was S all the way, but it requires unanimity, so… we were getting close to 20:00 at that point. 😄

You may even be able to diagnose your own problem.  If you are embarrassed by your swing that's all the more reason to record it.
