I found one on the course today. Looked new. It was the first time I have played this ball. My observations from a high 80's shooter who hits it OK for my age (56):

1. It felt too hard to me.
2. It carried maybe 5 yards further for me. My usual drive is about 250ish. I usually play an e5+, Gamer, or lately the new D2 Feel.
3. For a $4.00 dollar ball, they can't put a whiter finish on it? It looks dirty.
4. Didn't do much for my short game.

Definitely not the ball for me at that price.

I'm down to a 10 handicap. At this rate, I'll get to scratch at 90 years old!

You must have found an old ball. The new balls are just as white as any other.

As far as the price goes, you can purchase mint used Pro V1/V1x golf balls for a pretty decent cost. During most sales, you can get a dozen mint/AAAA shipped for less than $30.

You found a ball on the course... and you question its "white finish."

Seems to me.. if you found a ball on a course, you have no idea how long its been there, which could/would affect its finish. As for the rest... you found it. Meaning, it wasn't brand new. Which means, I probably wouldn't put a ton of stock into how it played, since you cannot possibly know what was done to that ball before you found it. If you want to try a ProV1X, spend $4 on a ball and use it. Or buy a sleeve. Consider it a one time sunk cost to satisfy your curiosity. That's what I do when I want to try out a new ball. Buy a sleeve.

You say you found it too hard. Is that compared to your usual gamer or D2?

Id agree that you cant really complain about how white the finish isnt on a used ball.
Also, I very much question the validity of a claim, especially when someone who plays balls like the Gamer, E5+ and D2 Feel and says that they found the Pro V1X to be, "too hard".

The balls I mention feel softer to me.

Why not valid?

Does the Gamer not have a softer cover?

One of my FAVORITE things about the Pro V1 was that after a bit it looked a little off white. Gave it a "classic" appearance to me.

They do go a bit off white-I found that too. Doesn't mean too much though trying a used ball-who knows what has happened to it!!! Part with your cash and buy a sleeve as everyone else says, pro v 1s arev the most available ball to buy. they are everywhere! So very easy to get hold of. Plus one of the few balls that they always have a 3 sleeve, so you don't have to buy a dozen like other balls-this annoys me, if I'm trying a new ball I don't want to buy 12-even if 3 pack work out more per ball I'd still rather buy a 3 sleeve to start with!

    • Day 87 (27 Jul 25) - Made it an easy session with the wedge this afternoon, worked on staying in the shot and not lifting out - split between low spinners and higher floaters.
    • Shot my new low 72 (par 70) today. Had 5 birdies, also a new best, which included a hole out from the bunker on par 3 6th, and another hole out pitch from 15ish yards on the long par 4, 15th.  Got a couple of other good breaks. Except for an OB drive on 14th (and ensuing double bogey), not much went wrong. All in all I might have used up a year's worth of luck in a single day.
    • Back in the saddle after vacation.  Day 1: played 18. Did not have it, but still battled to an 82. Felt closer to a 90, but that’s fine.
    • Yes, I have seen this from the older crowd that play the 4,700 yard tees and want to know why they get less strokes from there. Always trying to game the system 🤣
    • Day 300 - 2025-07-27 Good 44-ball segment. GSPro was acting goofy, so I just put it on the Quad. Then I hit a bunch of low spinners. Hit 14° down to 9.8° down, with the average closer to 12.3° or so. Focused mostly on the backswing. Right knee good, hands roll up and out a little before laying off (FAR).
