I'll be down there tomorrow (Friday) and Sunday as well. I'd like to catch a bit of Donald tomorrow. I've never had the chance to see him in person before. Also, the Singh-O'Hair-DiMarco group would be cool to follow...although it will be a couple rows deep.

Anyway, I've been down there a couple times before and love walking the course. It is always in magnificent shape and should be fun even without Woods.

I'll check back in...

Fairways and Greens.

No, I didn't go on Sunday if anyone was wondering. I'm sorry, but spending 4-5 hours in the cold rain is not my idea of fun.

Anyway, Friday was a great day out there and here are some random thoughts from what I saw:

Davis Love hit 3 Wood-4 Wood into #5. It's 570 yards long. Good god man. His playing parners, Ben Curtis and Jason Gore both hit driver and had to lay up. Of course it didn't help Gore to be behind 5 trees after blowing it waaaaaay right, but still...

It's funny watching some of these guys not get worked up after they hit a ball and yell at it. David Duval hit his second shot into #7 and carried the creek by about 1 foot, leaving 12 feet for eagle. He never made a motion other than a slight wave to the crowd. I would have been screaming at the ball to get up...in fact I was because it looke like he was going to take out one of the gooses...or geese...whatever.

Speaking of geese, the ones Duval nearly took out overshot their landing right in the middle of Curtis' birdie putt. Curtis playfully mocked them and flipped a ball at one of the geese trying to 'help' it back into the water before Gore's turn.

With Tiger out of the tourney, most of the spectators were follwing Phil around the course. #1 was lined to watch his first shot of the day, a beautiful, long drive down the left side of the fairway. Too bad they didn't stay to see Brandt Jobe hit it about 20 yards past where Phil was. Jobe had the longest drive there of any of the people we saw in the short time one #1.

I saw Jim Furyk miss two makeable putts for par in a row on 16 and 17. Live or on TV, I don't know if I'll ever see that again.

#18 at Quail Hollow has got to be one of the most intimidating tee shots in the world. That creek looks longer and wider live than it does on TV. Even if you hit a great tee shot...for example like Bubba Watson did on Friday, you can still make double. Bubba had 147 yards in (thanks to the huge screen on the 18th providing instant stats) and flew it into the back bunker. He then hit his shot a bit too long and it rolled all the way down the front of the green...where he promptly took 3 too get in for a beautiful double bogey. Nice drive though.

John Daly simply doesn't look like he cares out there. I know he's supposedly lost a ton of money gambling, but I think golf just doesn't matter to him and is simply a means to an end. What end that is, I have no clue...and I don't think John does either.

#7 is probably one of my favorite golf holes I've ever seen. Demanding tee shot from an elevated tee to a contoured green surrounded by trouble. The creek on the right is lined with stone for a beautiful touch. I usually don't like houses on the course, but these aren't houses...they are mansions. It's another hole that you have to walk and see in person to appreciate.

Sorry the update was late, family obligations and all...

Fairways and Greens.

You know, I think John Daly may have more raw talent than Tiger Woods, and if not more, close to the same level, but it's so underdeveloped that it's just sad. JD could have been a world-beater, big time, if only he paid attention to his game instead of hooters, beer, cigarettes, beer, women, gambling, beer, and women.

Yeah, you are right about the talent level. Tiger's work ethic has propelled him way over Daly and the rest of the guys on tour. Daly isn't on my top-5 list, that's for sure. I don't get why people like the guy.

As for the Wachovia Championship, it's quickly turned into one of my favorite events each year. The course is great, and that is obviously half the tournament in itself. The field is always great as well, which doesn't hurt anything. I'm envious of you Dave for having so many great courses in NC. We get a PGA tourney once in a blue moon in Oklahoma. Luckily, it's usually a major or Tour Championship.

Sorry this is a little late and no one will probably read it, but i had the amazing privelege to go to the Wachovia Championship. It was my first PGA tourney and it was AMAZING. hopefully i'll get to go to more. i went with my friend, golf coach and his son. He was best friends with Joe Durant growing up, so we followed him around all day....if that man could putt he would be one of the greatest players in the world. But anyways we got to go to dinner with Joe on Wednesday night and it was the coolest thing ever. He was just a normal guy, but if you have never been, just once in your life you have to go to the hotel where all the players stay at, it was the Hyatt in Charlotte for this one, and just walk around the lobby. I could literally feel the buzz. Then Joe drove us in his tournament BMW, talk about a great job, oh and he gave me and my friend at free cleveland hat. Talk about a cool job...
