Went to get fit for a 909 d2 today. I was feeling really good when warming up. Hitting all of my irons with a nice high draw. My ball striking was fabulous, my 9 iron was going around 150.
In November, i blew out my back. I must have torn the muscle, but the doctor thought otherwise. It healed after about 3 weeks, and i was back to normal. Fast foward 5 months. I am preparing for my fitting. I finally was ready to begin the process. First ball with the 909 d2, was a nice baby cut that had plenty of roll to it. Second ball i unleashed on. It carried a solid 240, and must have rolled out to around 265. It was right down the pipe. However on the transition to my downswing, i felt and heard a nasty noise and sharp pain in my back. It was the same thing that happened to me 5 months prior. So, i had to quit my fitting, which was disapointing, considering the guy i went to had all the latest technology, (trackman, flightscope, cameras etc.) 2 swings in, i was done, it sucked...im now going to have to wait at least another 2 weeks, until i can start playing again. This sucks, i thought i was over this injury...but ovbiously im not. Im going to a different doctor this time, and am going to be getting physical therapy. So hopefully i can wait my 2 weeks, and be back to normal...if not, well i always wait longer, but really...who likes not playing golf?

This time you should probably make sure that you're 100% before you start playing again. It sounds like you should have also started easier and maybe stretched before you started.

Yeah, i felt fine before my fitting, but i probly should have streched. Oh well, i learned my lesson...twice now!

That is brutal; as a guy who has had back issues, get it diagnosed and treated properly before even thinking about coming back. When you do go back, just hit some pitches and full wedge shots to make sure things are fine.

I've started exercising, focusing on core stuff, and do 15 minutes minimum of stretching per day, and this has helped my back problems greatly.

Good luck!

same thing happened to me 2 years ago....at the gym when I was deadlifting.
my advice that worked for me:
6 weeks off.... yes SIX!...no less than that. in the morning...use a heat pack to loosen it.
at night ice it down for about 20 minutes....
don't use icy hot or anything like that... real heat...real ice.
while you're recovering...after 3 weeks of just rest and not straining.

stretching....i'll look to see if I have the sheet my PT gave me to gain flexability...and strength...

but stretching and strengthening are key..... it's been 2 years and my back is stronger than ever (knock on wood)

It's because of this that I don't deadlift. Nor do I do heavy squats anymore either. I can focus on technique and form and still I'll end up straining my lower back if I try to incorporate those two moves in my training. I often wonder if I set myself up for this when I was in college? I took a weight training class once for a PE requirement (I don't think they even have PE requirements anymore) and trained with the power lifters. I'm not especially strong nor big. But I did manage to impress everyone with my dead lift. The final grade in the class was based on the three main lifts (bench, squat, and DL). You had to perfom so much in each lift based on your body weight. I weighed 155lbs back then and I managed to press enough for an A in the bench. My squate was woefully low, but if you could go over in one lift you could apply those pounds to the others. I pulled 405lbs on the DL and that was more then enough to get my A. Like I said everyone was real impressed, but I might have set myself up for cronic back strains later in life, who knows? But I do know my back feels much better when I use other methods to exercise it and manitain core and back strenght.

This sucks outright!!!!!!

Sorry to hear about your back.

I recently had to learn a few lessons the hard way about warm up and stretching prior.

The timing really sucks.....ready to demo some gear and put it through the paces......arghhhh. Hope you recover soon.
