Last summer I was playing a round with a few friends from the golf team when I let my friend try out my Cobra Speed Pro X driver. He took a swing, and on the downswing I heard a loud crack. The shaft splintered in half and was dangling by a few graphite fibers. The funny part was that he didn't even hit the ground and hit the ball a good 265 in the middle of the fairway. I then proceeded to send the club back to Cobra to get reshafted at no cost because it was a manufacturing error. I didn't even have the club for more than six months. After three weeks of waiting, I got my driver back and played a few rounds with it and something felt a little off. They actually put a fairway wood shaft in my driver! I was wondering what would the difference be between the two, and if this has happened to anybody else.

I wouldn't even bother trying to play with it anymore with the wrong shaft in it. Send it back and make them put the same type of shaft as you originally had in it. There's no excuse for them not to put the right shaft in and if they don't have any in stock get them to give you your money back. You payed for a driver with a particular shaft and that's what you should get.

well the point of the story is that I had a great driver until the shaft broke, and Cobra shipped it back to me with a fairway wood shaft.

Excellent advice. Why do we think we are entitled to compensation when anything goes wrong?

if anything, ask if they will send you another (possibly refurb'd) driver and put a hold on a credit card, removing the hold when they get your driver back.

If not, ask if they will send you just the shaft and see how much it would be to have a club fitter swap them for you. For the $15, it will mean that you don't lose the ability to play your club for the week plus it might take them to correct the problem.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

Because when you pay for a product you should get what you payed for.

I agree with all of you. Do i think he deserves a new set of irons for the mistake, NO. But a hat, or shirt would be a nice gessture. He'll be without a driver for a month more now, due to thier mistake. Is he entitled to some form of compensation?...NO, but it sure would help satisfy a customer. And then when he comes back here and says how great thier CS is, they might gain a customer or two.

My take, although no one cares, is that Cobra has only made one mistake, the wrong replacement shaft. The shaft manufacturer created the problem and with anything mass produced there will be a defect in one of thousands produced.

I like the last take on it, a hat or shirt as a goodwill gesture, but I would never expect a company to compensate for an honest mistake. Although, it's rediculously frustrating.

I'm curious to hear how it turns out, my guess would be that they will be somewhat flexible in how you'd like to handle it as far as sending you a shaft, but I wouldn't expect any further help if there is a problem as it is no longer "their" manufactured club.

Let us know what happens.

I kind of disagree with you here. If your car breaks down, do you complain about the manufacturer or the parts supplier. Most people will bad mouth the manufacturer.

To give a comparison, I've got a problem with my uPro GPS. I call customer service and they 2-day Air ship me a brand new unit. That's pretty good.

Yes, I would complain about the parts supplier because we'd be talking about a part with the particular company's name written in big letters on it and they'd have their own market. Car owners would be talking about that particular part, maybe even include details about it in their signatures on forums... like people do with their shafts. We're not talking about some ball bearing made in Canada.

If we want to equate this to a car part we can... so if you had new tires on your car, you'd be mad at Audi when a supposed state of the art Bridgestone tire blew and left you on the side of the road?

    • Day 24: did a stack session. Worked a bit on downswing feels during breaks.
    • Day 444 - 2025-12-18 Light day of hotel room work. GEARS Summit v2.0 today. Good day.
    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
