Short history:

Played R7 draw irons. Too much draw. Also, playing 2-3 times a week last year, so moved to Mizuno MP57. I was hitting them pretty well, but then this year have gone to playing once every 10-14 days. My iron play went into the toilet. I started thinking I probably should move to GI irons, so I did a little research (including an article on this site) and got some Nickent 3DX clubs.

Well, I can't hit them to save my life! I can hit my Mizunos OK still (put in more range time) but can do nothing with the Nickents. Any adjustment I should make?

It sounds like something happened in your swing vs. the club difference and now you are losing confidence in your game. I had this happen quite a few years ago and it was extremely frustrating. Without knowing anything about your game - my recomendation would be to take your PW or 9I and just work on 1/2 or 3/4 swings focusing on the simple things. good luck.

before you went and bought the new irons, i would've suggested that you got some lessons. If you not hitting some clubs well, it YOU not the club. So getting new sticks should solve nothing. I have a friend that i always play with, and once he starts playing badly he thinks he needs some new clubs. Sorry if this isn't the advise you wanted, but a lesson or two yould help you out alot.

you didnt get to demo the clubs before buying them?
i say take a few trips to the range and take notes on your tendencies with the new clubs... then get with a pro and work out whats going on

I started to get this with my Nike Ignites I had. The long irons were so draw biased I ended up hooking everything. They also felt like giant shovels I was swinging. Switching to the MP30s opened up some new swing flaws for sure, but I've gotten a big improvement with lots of practice.

I've actually got their 3dx gi's and yes, they are hard as heck to hit. Truthfully, the only thing that makes this a gi club is that it's clunky and big and has a lot of offset. It's sweetspot isn't very big but it's worked as a training aid very well and has taught me the most important parts of my swing due to the deep swingweight. You really gotta whip that club around and snap it at the bottom for it's weight to take effect since it's so light with graphite shafts. However, despite the smaller sweet spot, the club performs pretty forgivingly. It hurts a bunch when you mishit it but your misses won't be so far away.

I've got the 3DX RC's and I've never hit the ball better. Hoping to start the season soon(whenever the weather shapes up!!!!).

It probably has something to do with the larger soles and offsets usually found on GI clubs. Only as a range experiment, try pressing your hands forward to the edge of your left thigh and see what the ball does.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
