Anyone else play in 45+ mph winds the last couple of days? It was beyond weird. The PGA suspended play in Houston, and the golf channel is showing the LPGA event where the wind is blowing a ball off the green into a water hazard. I like hitting nearly 400 yard drives downwind as much as the next guy or gal, but putting and anything hit very high was totally unpredictable --

Fortunately, today was a charity scramble and we played on recently aerated greens so at least you could spot your ball in a punched hole (about the only way a ball would stop.) It was silly. I hit a 3 wood into a par four that normally requires an 8 iron or so. On a 573 yard par five, guys were hitting 6 irons over the green. I'm ready for a calm day.

Teed off at 10:30 Friday morning....it was really gusty here. You could pull a club.....step up to the ball only to have serious doubts by the time you addressed it.

It made for an interesting round. It certainly did affect the putting.

I played last year in a 45+ wind. My dad, who's usually as stoic as Seneca, was pissed and quit after 12 holes. It was retarded. Two par 4s in a row I went something like driver, 3-iron, 3-iron, punch something to the green; then a downwind 550+ yard par 5 w/driver & wedge to the green. I found the cross wind holes much harder to manage. I sliced a drive about 100 yards offline...I shot 85, and I was super pleased with it!?!?!?!?

Tomorrow I'm playing in a forecasted 25+ mph wind - looking forward to it.

I've always enjoyed playing in a big wind. It just makes the round more interesting in my opinion. A player can learn a lot about controlling trajectory when playing in these conditions. I've learned a lot about hitting it low into the wind and high with wind at my back, not to mention learning to work the ball with a cross wind. I think it's just fun.

A few weeks ago I played a 400 yard par into the wind... I hit driver off the tee, driver off the deck, and still had an 8I left.

The next hole was downwind, a 540 yard par 5 and I hit a 325 yard drive. We get winds like that all winter long, spring and fall too. Nothing unusual about that... you learn to deal with it or you don't play golf for half the year.

Shot a 47 on the front 9 at Breezes Runaway Bay in Jamaica last week. Sure was windy. 3 par's on the front and one on the back.

There's usually only 1 course around here that ever gets windy because it sits in this little funnel through the valley, but everywhere has been windy lately. It's odd. A buddy of mine hit a 165yd 5 wood yesterday.

I remember the 5th hole there is like a 480 yd par 4, and it usually plays with a 30mph tailwind so it's driver-wedge, and then the next one is right back into the wind, about 370 uphill - and you are usually hitting a long iron into it.
